Nice story. Well read.

I liked this story. It is interesting to watch the dungeon grow and learn. The author leaves interesting clues for future plot development in future books.

A story that misses key elements

Before I start, I want to say if this is the writer's first book series. Pretty good, you have the basics down and it's worth a read for those new to fantasy and isekai stories. With that out of the way, my non-spoiler review.

Have you ever watched a movie series made by someone who has never watched a movie, but had someone explain what a movie is to them? That is the nutshell of The Slime Dungeon Chronicles as a whole. It is an Isekai story written by someone who has the basics of an Isekai explained to them but doesn't have any experience with the subject matter at hand.

Characters are written without consideration for consequences, cohesion, or a sense of fairness in the world. Things just happen and favoritism from the writer is on the rise. Have a backstabbing, lying, manipulative character? Everyone relates to them and even praises them and never figures out their two-faced nature. Have a cautious, strong-willed, and thoughtful character? They will get their plans undermined, destroyed, and picked on by their allies for their small list of shortcomings constantly. It is like the writer felt that characters who they liked as main roles could do no wrong, and childishness, irresponsibility, and selfishness were praised the entire book through for the side of the protagonists while the antagonists got "Deus Ex Machina" out of the story when their establishing storylines for the main cast were finished.

This book was free and for obvious reasons by the time I got to book two or three in the series. The evil types of characters are well set up for you to hate them, which brings you into the perspective of the protagonists, but otherwise, you get lazy scenes where a character is an absolute jerk to someone else and only gets praised for it from the writer's point of view through other characters. In the end? The unrealistic portrayal of socialization in an isekai fantasy novel is a key element that is missing from this series. The idea is that it is someone or something relatable at base in a different world adapting and growing in it. In this series? Their adaptation and some of the characters they meet fail to grow or even become likable or relatable.

So the dungeon gets stronger, and the supporting cast gets stronger, but no one ever grows as a person. Liars stay liars with no punishment, those who stand up for good get ignored, and deus ex machina saves the day. There are only maybe two characters out of a cast of 40+ that are named and important that ever grow, change, and learn outside of power level increases, and it's a poor showing.

It's a decent attempt at a story. Would have been nice if the people made sense and matched the gravity of their situations instead of spending so much time picking on each other and acting childish, even for a book imho meant for the 16-20-something demographic.

Fantastic

Slime Dungeon is innovative, entertaining, and an absolute pleasure to experience. Anyone with a gaming background will enjoy this intriguing glimpse from the dungeon's point of view. And you may end up cheering for a dungeon the next time an Adventurer causes a party wipe.
Excellent book, good narration.
Eagerly anticipating the next book.

Tell, tell, tell and never show

Not bad but the author needs to refine his craft. The setting and plot are interesting and worth looking into, but the quality of writing is rather poor. Too much is told at the reader. At times the language is crude and not period appropriate. I hope it improves with more practice. Plus the voice actor mispronounced several words.

A "nice" dungeon core...lame

So far the dungeon has only spared 1 person, but that out of 2 groups.Im not optimistic, but ill see how this goes. will upate later. God, this is so lame. Update: now he going save some dumb hoe from getting raped.. I cant stand when authors make their characters even more stupid then people in reall life, its so typical and annoying. Up your game author, dont make your characters unrealisticly stupid just to further your dumb plot.

A different spin on what is becomming a trope.

At the start of this book I was somewhat disappointed. Having read "Dungeon Born" recently I found so many of the same points hit that I started to think it was just copying the story from that. Doing a bit of research I found out this actually preceded that book by a handful of months and my anger reversed. Upon further research I found a smattering of other books that also followed a sentient dungeon and I am now left scratching my head trying to figure out when exactly this became a trope and where it came from. With all of that confusion aside the book is a solid fun read. Some parts seem a bit forced like the mommy daddy thing(it'll make sense when you get there) coming out of nowhere and just getting steamrolled into sticking. Also I cant really think of anything that stuck out as memorably hilarious. All the same I cant say I didn't enjoy the book.

Simple but good.

A generally good book. Not a lot of depth going on here though.

It's what you would expect from an authors very first book. No side plots, no real character development and no twists or turns. Just "here are the good guys. Here is generally how the world works. Here's a damsel in destress. Here's a bad guy. Yaaaay they stopped the bad guy!. The end".

It's not a bad book, I liked it. I just wish it was fuller, if that makes sense.

pretty good.

It's written in simple prose, but some themes are a little mature. parental guidance suggested.
