Resumen del Editor

Georgia Thackery, adjunct English professor, has a new job teaching at Falstone College of Art and Design, known as FAD to its students and faculty. Living in a borrowed bungalow during winter in the snowiest part of Massachusetts, Georgia feels her isolation weighing as heavily as the weather. Then she receives a package containing her best friend, Sid, a walking, talking skeleton who has lived with the Thackery family since Georgia was six. With Georgia working out of town, Sid was lonely, too.

The two of them make plans for a cozy semester together, and it might have worked out that way if Sid hadn't snuck out in the middle of the night to play in the snow and spotted a crashed car. When he drags Georgia out to investigate, they find the driver behind the wheel, apparently dead from the collision.

Initially, police think it's an accident, so Georgia and Sid think that's the end of it - until Georgia finds out the body hits closer to home than she'd realized....

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Dr. Georgia Thackery is smart, resourceful, and determined to be a great single mom to her teenager. Georgia is normal in every respect - except that her best friend happens to be a skeleton named Sid. You'll love the adventures of this unexpected mystery-solving duo." (Charlaine Harris, number one New York Times best-selling author)

Stands skull & scapula above other cozy mysteries!

I **really** look forward to each installment of this series as each book is fresh and clever. Dr. Georgia Thackery is the main character and she works as is an adjunct professor which is clever because her career keeps her moving around and the setting fresh. Sid is her partner and just happens to be an animated skeleton. Don’t knock it, it works. I often read the synopsis of paranormal mysteries and am pretty skeptical as to how well it is really going to work and pass on them. In this case, the character of Sid really works well and integral to the storyline. In The Skeleton Paints a Picture, Georgia takes a position at a small art school wherein lays a dead body and students who are having their digital art stolen. The investigation is fun and timely.

I like the audio edition of this book because Katina Kalin does a perfect job of narration. With all the tensions of the real world, the combination of her as a narrator and the adventures of Georgia and Sid is a welcome refuge. I look forward each fall to hearing her read books in The Family Skeleton serious. The downside is I binge listen and have too long a wait for both the next book in the series. Katina Kalin also has narrated some Judith Tarr books including Writing Horses: The Fine Art of Getting It Right which looks pretty interesting. Currently, there is an attractive deal for buying the Kindle and Audible editions.

Less use of ridiculous grammar would help story.

Cute story, but less pushing for use of “they” as a “singular”pronoun for the gender confused is clumsy and also confusing. In several portions of author’s storyline. It detracts from the story. I prefer using ‘gyn”(for androgynous) for singular form subjective case, gyn objective case) (as in he, she, it, gyn & him, her, gyr )). They remains as plural for all of the pronouns.

Really enjoyable but had some pretty big flaws.

1) (spoiler) The main char assuming the victim was a criminal based on them having documentation of evidence in their office would make me assume they think homicide detectives are mass murderers. I understand it was setup for plot later on, but it was particularly stupid.
2) (spoiler) The main chars insinuating that they feel the victim was justifiably murdered for allegedly having stolen and made money off of said stolen artwork is idiotic. Does the author think someone re-selling a used copy of their book would justify them to be allowed to murder the seller? This is obviously somewhat of a false equivalence, but not far off.
3) Author's main char used the word mansplain unironically. The recipient ended up being a terrible person, but that doesn't make it any less sexist.
Overall it was still an enjoyable story, if a bit short, but I really had to point these facts out.

Well done, and Gender Fluid!

Not only was this another fun Skeleton mystery, this one included a gender fluid character. So far as I understand it, that's a person who feels multiple genders interchangeably. I am so glad to see that in a modern day mystery. Progress!

Love Sid

I love this series but this book has way too much about adjunct/tenure in my opinion.
