Resumen del Editor

The Hebrews call me prophetess, the Egyptians a seer.
But I am neither. I am simply a watcher of Israel
and the messenger of El Shaddai.
When He speaks to me in dreams, I interpret. When He whispers a melody, I sing.

At 86, Miriam had devoted her entire life to loving El Shaddai and serving His people as both midwife and messenger. Yet when her brother Moses returns to Egypt from exile, he brings a disruptive message. God has a new name - Yahweh - and has declared a radical deliverance for the Israelites.

Miriam and her beloved family face an impossible choice: cling to familiar bondage or embrace uncharted freedom at an unimaginable cost. Even if the Hebrews survive the plagues set to turn the Nile to blood and unleash a maelstrom of frogs and locusts, can they weather the resulting fury of the Pharaoh?

Enter an exotic land where a cruel Pharaoh reigns, pagan priests wield black arts, and the Israelites cry out to a God they only think they know.

“Mesu Andrews’s novels have transformed my ability to hear the heartbeat of biblical figures like Job, Dinah, and Solomon. Miriam brings another cast of familiar characters to vibrant life - Miriam, Moses, Eleazar, Aaron, Hur - mingling them seamlessly with an imagined circle of loved ones that will have readers eagerly turning pages to witness God’s stunning power at work for his people, both personally and nationally. With skillful prose, impeccable research, and a clear devotion to the biblical account of Israel’s Exodus from Egypt, Mesu Andrews depicts these Old Testament men and women with a sparkling clarity, never shying away from what makes them relatable human beings - the failings, triumphs, and yearnings that are timeless.” (Lori Benton, author of Burning Sky, The Pursuit of Tamsen Littlejohn, and The Wood’s Edge)

“Mesu Andrews’s engaging novel, Miriam, gives us a new and vibrant appreciation for life in Egypt as the Lord visits the land with ten unforgettable plagues. With fascinating insight into biblical history as well as the human heart, this story will capture your attention until the last page.” (Tessa Afshar, award-winning author of Land of Silence and Pearl in the Sand)

"Andrews (The Pharaoh’s Daughter) offers her unique brand of in-depth Bible knowledge and storytelling flair in this tale of Miriam, sister of the famous Moses and Israel’s prophetess during the slavery of Israelites in Egypt. Miriam’s strong faith comes into question when she begins to experience her gentle husband, El-Shaddai, as Yahweh, God of Moses, as well as plagues and death. Before the story ends with the Israelites’ miraculous freedom after the final, horrible plague, Andrews offers readers a beautiful and nuanced picture of Miriam and other characters: Eleazer, Miriam’s beloved nephew and slave soldier; Taliah, his young and headstrong wife; Hoshea, Eleazer’s right-hand man, of gigantic faith; and even stubborn Pharaoh Ramesses himself. Andrews is gifted at bringing the past to life, and readers will thrill at God’s victory even as they struggle, as Miriam did, to understand God’s plan. This novel is biblical fiction at its finest." Needed more Mariam

I lidten everything that Mesu Andrews writes that comes out on Audible. She’s not as good as Francine Rivers but almost.
I’m going to listen to this book again but I wanted to write the review while I had a chance to because it deserves four stars and the only reason it doesn’t get five is there just wasn’t enough Miriam in it.

Loved it. Stayed on the edge of my seat even though I've known the story since I was a child.

Truly Wonderful

Mesu does it again. I loved it!!! I didn't realise until about the second chapter that she continued from Pharaohs Daughter. She doesn't usually do sequels . Her novels are pretty full as a standalone. Bravo Mesu
P.S. Read Pharaoh's Daughter first and then Miriam.

Wonderful!

This was one of the best audio books I've ever "read". The biblical story of Moses return from exile to lead the Hebrews out of bondage in Egypt, told from the perspective of his sister Miriam. The struggles Miriam had in accepting God's name as Yaweh, when she had always known him as El Shaddai was very insightful. The plagues were so descriptive, I felt like I was there living the experience. The narration was excellent and really enhanced the story. Mesu, thank-you for your continued devotion to writing Christian literature we can all enjoy!
