Surprised
I was not expecting to enjoy this because I have been disappointed by several books lately. I was wrong. This was good!!! I enjoyed the story and the reader. I feel I have now found a new series that interest me again.

Kept me guessing till the end.
I enjoyed the suspense and intrigue. The characters were easy to like. I look forward to the next episode.

thoroughly enjoyable, well written
I did not expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. Historical mysteries are not on the top of my list. I was not able to find anything that appealed to me, this was a suggestion, so I took a chance. I now look forward to reading the remainder of the series. I liked the atmosphere, the characters, and the narrator. While I figured out the murderer, it was late in the book which is good as I do like to guess but not have it so easy to solve.

Muddled Refreshing Mystery
Really enjoyed this very different historica mystery. It did not contain much historical description but a lot of mystery to solve. At first I did not think the Inspector was very qgood at solving crime, but he proved me wrong in the end. Narrator very good. Looking forward to the next step.

Yuck
Take a lazy detective, an unoriginal story, and add in abuse of power and there you have it. If you’ve got nothing better to do than to read this, find a different hobby.

Inane writing
Perhaps the story was meant to be innocent / naive? I fought my way through half of this book, but just gave up. Silly storytelling with foolish details about nothing that mattered (how does each character take his tea, for instance). I enjoy details that build character traits, but these details felt like fill-in-the-blanks for a weak story.
The narrator was strange and often simpering, but I have to believe he was just following the personality of the characters.
