Acerca de esta escucha
If you’re seeking deeper love, friendship, or community, The Magic of Tiny Moments offers a transcendent path to high-trust, meaningful connection.
In a world where we're lonelier than ever before, artist and researcher Jared Matthew Weiss has uncovered the hidden architecture of human connection. Drawing from behavioral science, neuroscience, and psychology, plus his groundbreaking research spanning 26 countries and 10,000 participants, Weiss offers a simple solution to cultivating better relationships.
Simply, if you're struggling to build meaningful relationships, the problem often isn't a lack of opportunity to connect with others—it's that you haven’t noticed the countless moments of potential connection that surround you every day. Most of us believe that relationships are built and broken in grand gestures and dramatic betrayals. The surprising truth? They're constructed slowly, one tiny moment at a time, through small interactions that make others feel safe, known, and loved.
Drawing from stories of real people from around the world, Weiss introduces the revolutionary "tiny moment loop"—the fundamental architecture behind every human interaction. Through this lens, he presents the “three laws of connection”: recognizing bids, making generous assumptions, and turning towards others.
This Audible Original is filled with evidence-based tools and immediate action steps for:
- Identifying the opportunities for connection already in your orbit every day
- Practicing self-care that leads to positive interactions with others
- Becoming more conscious of the thought patterns that may be hindering your capacity to truly connect with others
- Finding the resolve to forgive other people (and yourself) when things don’t work out the way you’d hoped
- Building your emotional vocabulary
- Creating deeper bonds with family, friends, romantic partners, colleagues, neighbors
- And so much more!
The Magic of Tiny Moments will forever change how you approach relationships. It offers a proven framework for relationship-building that has helped hundreds of people repair fractured family bonds, build communities of friends, grow high-trust corporate cultures, and cultivate lasting romantic relationships.
Whether you're looking to deepen family ties, forge meaningful friendships, enhance romantic intimacy, build team camaraderie, or create a vibrant community, this Audible Original offers a simple but powerful framework for transforming how you show up in all the social interactions of your life.
Because ultimately, the quality of our lives is determined not by the big moments we plan for, but by how we show up for the small moments we're given. The Magic of Tiny Moments will show you exactly how to make those moments count.

Expressing what you want isn’t selfish, it’s prioritizing yourself. The need to please is powerful, but it causes anxiety, stress, and resentment. Time to change your patterns. Stand Up for Yourself is direct and no-nonsense. That’s because the way you prioritize others and let them stomp all over your boundaries isn’t working, so you need a change. This book teaches you how to reverse these mini-decisions, and internalize the belief that you are worth it, you are valuable, and you deserve it. Because you are, and you do.

In speed skating, a hard pivot is an aggressive shift of direction that requires courage, practice, and split-second timing. For Apolo Ohno, the most frightening hard pivot of his life didn’t happen on the ice—but rather, when he had to hang up his skates for good. “After my final Olympics, I felt confused, vulnerable, and adrift without purpose,” he says.

In this book, Singh provides a safe space where listeners can learn how to create a sense of peace within themselves. Without sugarcoating what it’s like to face adversity - including acknowledging her own intensely personal struggles with identity, success, and self-doubt - Singh teaches listeners to “unsubscribe” from cookie-cutter ideals.

For many people, a good life is a stable life, a comfortable life that follows a well-trodden path. This is the case for Shigehiro Oishi's father, who has lived in a small mountain town in Japan for his entire life, putting his family's needs above his own, like his father and grandfather before him. But is a happy life, or even a meaningful life, the only path to a good life? In Life in Three Dimensions, Shige Oishi enters into a debate that has animated psychology since 1984, when Ed Diener (Oishi's mentor) published a paper that launched happiness studies.

Anyone who struggles with overeating knows what it’s like to feel out of control—and to feel the guilt attached to it. While ordinary anxiety feels like something that happens to us, the siren song of food cravings feels like something we should be able to control. The result is a toxic cocktail of shame and self-loathing that makes it impossible to change our behavior. The Hunger Habit is based on Judson Brewer’s deeply researched plan proven to help us understand what is going on in our brains so that we can heal the shame and overcome overeating.

What is genius? The word evokes iconic figures like Einstein, Beethoven, Picasso, and Steve Jobs, whose cultural contributions have irreversibly shaped society. Yet Beethoven could not multiply. Picasso couldn’t pass a fourth grade math test. And Jobs left high school with a 2.65 GPA. The Hidden Habits of Genius explores the meaning of this contested term, and the unexpected motivations of those we have dubbed "genius" throughout history, from Charles Darwin and Marie Curie to Leonardo Da Vinci and Andy Warhol to Toni Morrison and Elon Musk.

If you're like most people, you think that your choices and behaviors are driven by your individual personal tastes and opinions. You wear a certain jacket because you like the way it looks. You picked a particular career because you found it interesting. The notion that our choices are driven by our own personal thoughts and opinions is patently obvious. Right? Wrong. Without our realizing it, other people's behavior has a huge influence on everything we do at every moment of our lives, from the mundane to the momentous occasion.

Up to 40% of people consider themselves shy. You might say you're introverted or awkward, or that you're fine around friends but just can't speak up in a meeting or at a party. Maybe you're usually confident but have recently moved or started a new job, only to feel isolated and unsure. If you get nervous in social situations - meeting your partner's friends, public speaking, standing awkwardly in the elevator with your boss - you've probably been told, "Just be yourself!" But that's easier said than done - especially if you're prone to social anxiety.

Eating is an indispensable human activity. As a result, whether we realize it or not, the drive to obtain food has been a major catalyst across all of history, from prehistoric times to the present. Epicure Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin said it best: "Gastronomy governs the whole life of man."

We've all seen the happiness on the face of a child while playing in the school yard. Or the blissful abandon of a golden retriever racing across a lawn. This is the joy of play. By definition, play is purposeless, all-consuming, and fun. But as Dr. Stuart Brown illustrates, play is anything but trivial. It is a biological drive as integral to our health as sleep or nutrition. We are designed by nature to flourish through play.

In this groundbreaking audiobook, neuropsychology professor Chris Niebauer explains how after decades of research on the brain, Western science may have inadvertently confirmed a fundamental tenet of Buddhism: anatta, or the doctrine of "no self". Niebauer shows how findings in neuropsychology suggest that our sense of self is actually an illusion created by the left side of the brain and that it exists in the same way a mirage in the middle of the desert exists: as a thought rather than a thing.

SHELVED explores the history and drama behind albums that were deemed too controversial, too far from the beaten path, or too ahead of their time for public consumption. Through interviews with musicians, producers, record executives, and journalists, as well as archival audio, key music and personal storytelling, each episode examines the “shelved” album’s place in musical history, and the spectacles behind each missed or nearly missed release.

The resurgence of viral clips from the long-running hit reality television show America’s Next Top Model left fans and foes alike wondering–how did a show so outrageous and at times offensive ever get on the air? For years, Americans dutifully watched as contestants faced uncomfortable situations regarding their race and gender, body-shaming, stereotyping, and problematic photoshoots. The show, which first premiered in 2003 and ran for 24 cycles, was helmed by supermodel Tyra Banks–the first Black female host of a smash network reality show.

ADHD may be the defining diagnosis of our time. According to the latest data, more than 10 percent of American children (that’s 7.1 million kids) have been diagnosed with ADHD. And the number of stimulant prescriptions for adults in their 30s has shot up nearly threefold since 2012. In recent years, this explosion in demand has combined with other factors to create a widespread stimulant shortage in the US. In the second installment of Backfired, cohosts Leon Neyfakh and Arielle Pardes look at the unintended consequences of the ADHD industry, and trace the surprising path that brought us here.

Eye-opening and transformative
I absolutely loved this illuminating, thought-provoking, generous work, narrated warmly by its author. I was able to immediately apply the concepts I learned and instantly saw the power it gave me to transform my relationships and more intentionally build community. Weiss has clearly done his research, but he shares the information within an easy-to-follow and inviting framework, as if you're talking over coffee. This was eye-opening, and I've already been recommending it to everyone I know.

Heart-Forward, Refreshing and Practical
I loved the depth of heart offered in this book. It was wide reaching in its look at what makes for healthy human connections, but what I loved most were the practical elements offered as gifts - I.e. the look/in-depth look at the 3 laws of connection and the wheel of emotion. The book was very well researched and was created to genuinely be a generous guide. Thanks. Loved it

Wonderful book that can profoundly change how one approaches relationships!
There were many things to love about this book. The author gives the readers a guide on how one can approach all of the relationships in one's life. It is well researched and the recommendations are straight forward and relatable. Interspersed are true stories that bring home the author's points. He also carries his connection recommendations from the intimate to the larger community, broadening its impact. I can honestly say that this book has helped me to change the way I react and interact with those around me. The concept of making 'generous assumptions' in my relationships is very powerful. This is a book that one wants to read and reread. I very much hope that a print edition will come out soon so I can return to it when needed and remind myself of its basic and broader principles. The author does a great job narrating the book. I highly recommend this book to, well, everyone!

Insightful, simple advice to live a more connected life
Beautifully narrated by the author, The Magic of Tiny Moments lays out a bunch of stuff that you probably already know on some level, but with the science to back it up, and anecdotes to make it all real.
Weiss hasn’t broken new ground, exactly, but he expertly weaves together research across disciplines to tell a compelling story about how to be more authentic and open in one’s relationships, and how doing so will lead to a longer, healthier life.
Strongly recommend listening to this book!

A profound guide to building meaningful connections
In a world where personal relationships often feel complex, confusing, and even heartbreaking, The Magic of Tiny Moments offers both a beacon of hope and a practical guide for sense making.
Weiss distills what was clearly hundreds of hours of research—spanning fields like personal development, psychology, and spirituality—into a “greatest hits” collection of tools, frameworks, and research-backed principles for building healthy connections, brought to life through engaging and often vulnerable stories from his own life.
Concepts like the “body budget”, which focuses on managing physical and emotional reserves through practices like exposure to nature or single-tasking, and the “baby checklist,” which underscores the importance of self-care, are profound in their simplicity and potency.
If you’re interested in deepening your connections—with loved ones, strangers, or yourself—this book is an invaluable resource. Highly recommended!

A Love Letter to us Humans
While driving from Austin to Dallas, I have the thought, "this is Jared's love letter to the rest of humanity."
What does that mean?
In this book he weaves together information from so many different teachers into a manual for how to connect and how to live a better life. It's an offering to his fellow humans that says you don't need to struggle in the dark anymore. Smart people have figured so much out about how to live in relationship with other human beings (And ourselves).
The way he's weaved together the insights and research with his own personal stories of travel make the points come alive.
For newbies to personal development this is an amazing first stop along the way that will open up many new paths and teachers to connect with.
For personal development junkies like myself, this book is a great overview, deepener, and refresher for so many of the wise tools and research that's been done on how humans live their best life.
Jared's an engaging speaker and storyteller, which makes this an easy listen. I highly recommend adding it to your Audible library.
