Solid Storyline & Characters, worthy

Peve: no book 2 to continue, just when things take a turn towards the reality of dealing with current conditions.
Overall, not a lot of original anything. With the exception for the cause, which we know just enough about to make it plausible (??). Basically, here we have a good paced, well organized book with characters we can care about getting thrown into what is quickly becoming the apocalyptic east coast of America.
The AI narrative isn't too bad, but I tend to be more tolerant than others in that regard. It is AI as it is these days. Take that as you will.
Happy I found this for free. Easily ready to get into book 2. Now I guess I'll search for my next distraction from scratch, again.

The story line is great

The overall writing is great, but the virtual voice reader completely ruins it for me. Stop using virtual readers as there is no understand of the context relayed with virtual. Wrong pronounciation of words, Emphasis on the words necessary to relay the meaning of the dialogue is wrong 75% of the time. Flat, monotone delivery. If this is the way Audible is going with their program, I won’t be able to continue to use the app. It is distracting and awful. It ruined a book that I normally would have loved!

Story is interesting, Virtual Voice ruins it

Really cannot listen to this book the story is good but the Virtual Voice ruins it. No inflections, just monotone reading.

I could not get into story line. Narration was horrible no inflection and a monotone voice. I finally just deleted book

Slow start story line. I bought it so kept listening. Then it picked up

Did not like the AI reader. Lacked emotion. Too flat. Also I hate buying a book getting involved in the story line and there is no book 2???

The story is interesting. Worst narration I’ve ever heard

The story and idea wasn’t bad. When I say this is bad narration, it’s underselling how terrible it was. It says that it was narrated by “virtual voice” so I’m assuming that is some kind of AI like Siri… imagine listening to Siri read you an entire book… this was infinitely worse

Story is okay but virtual voice is awful!!! Bad cadence, interpretation, pronunciation, timing, inflection, BAD BAD BAD!!!!!

Great story, but…

It’s a really great story, but computer generated narration completely ruined it. I’ll never again choose a narration like this again. Free or not!

no redeeming qualities

I hope that authors and publishers see some of these reviews because Virtual Voice is ruining audiobooks.. it makes me think you don't care about your work to just go with the easiest thing. I don't think I would have liked it either way, how posterous it would be for a whole country to use a material for building a huge amount of their infrastructure that goes up in flames from some guy smoking a cigarette and having it on his clothes like that wouldn't happen once in the entire time they built everything using it?.?. just silly

The ai narration sucks.

Good story but AI screws up so many things. The narration can make or break an audio book.
