A wonderful continuation of the Renaissance story, chivalry, war, history and real human nature.

This story is everything I hoped it would be. It features so many points that are partly fictional and partly history. I loved it so much. I'm somewhat of a historian myself. This is a time so important to me. I am a Tarot historian and this is the time when Tarot was created/began. So I can appreciate all the effort that went into this book and all the other books in this series.
The detail, the descriptions of the fighting and the armor, the intrigue, just fantastic. Can't wait to see what happens in the next book! Thank you Christian Cameron, no one writes like you, you're simply awesome!!! Thank you so much for lifting us into the past in a way like no other! You take us out of our humdrum lives and allow to escape. That's invaluable!!!

William Gold rides again

I have been reading the series for years and this installment does not disappoint. Christian Cameron is in fine form with this book. If you like historical fiction, you will love this book.

Adventure stories from 14th Century Europe

Every book by Christian Cameron has been a hit for me. I love learning about history and Cameron's novels give access to lives and politics in a way I can't get from noon fiction history novels. I am aware that Cameron isn't writing historical facts and is taking license with what can be proven and writing at the edges of what is truly known. Still, he does his research for both the high level politics (intimate conversations with the Roman emperor, seeing the decay of the Empire in the late 1300's) and the locations and fighting. His stories always flow and everything I've ever read from him consumes me and sends me to the Internet and Wikipedia to read further on tidbits he drops into his books.

The narrator is amazing and modulates his voice so that I know who is speaking during conversations, and the English accent is perfect for the characters he portrays.

This book covers 1372-1375 and includes adventures in Italy, Constantinople, the Euxine, and Greece. I loved every second of it and got the audiobook after I read the printed version, just for narrator's pronunciation and to pick up things I might have missed in my initial read.

Great as always

This is one of the best series I’ve come across. Great performance and story as always. I can’t wait for book seven.

Glad it’s not over

I went into this listen thinking it was the final in the series and I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say you’ll find towards the end there’s just no way and it in fact is not. The whole series, as with everything I’ve read by this author, is brilliant and this is no exception. I hope a new Tom Swan novel is next but will be ok with any of the active series’ continuing. At no point does this read drag - I finished it in a day as I couldn’t stop with the listen. Is great!

The characters come to life.

Absolutely love these characters. The way this book is written and how the narrator brings them to life is incredible. The story kept me on the edge of my seat. The entire thing was just amazing.

Great overall story and connects all his books in ways. Fun way to hear history and is fun to listen to.
