Wonderful characters develop within a plot that never fails to excite. Combat described with extraordinary flair and expertise. I look forward to a dozen new books to read over the next decade. Excellent start to a new series!

If you love historical fiction, Cameron is one of the best writers out there. He picked a location near and dear to my heart - Venice - probably my favorite city in the world. He has an intriguing main character with a fascinating cast of minor characters. Plenty of action and intrigue and an intricate look at the politics of Venice in the mid-17th century....

Fun spy novel in a cool setting

Enjoyed the cast of characters and general stumbling around trying to solve a murder, could have used some more mystery regarding the identity of the killer but all in all a good bit of swashbuckling

As Always, Phenomenal

Christian Cameron's writing coupled with Peter Noble's narration is quite possibly my favorite combination for audiobooks of any kind.

I really enjoyed this book, though it is a bit different than the other Christian Cameron audiobooks on here. This one is more of a historical genre fiction investigative/spy thriller rather than a historical genre fiction narrative. It's very good and I highly recommend this work!

Beautiful work, transports you utterly into a romantic and violent world of great detail.

The Author continues to rise above his peers in works of historical fiction. I hesitate to characterize this as a subgenre as it is a work of literature, history , thriller, romance and simply a window into a beautiful world that once was.

A fun mystery in 17th century Venice

A fun story, exploring politics and intrigue around the Venetian opera. Christian Cameron brings his usual depth to the characterizations and lived experiences of his characters.

Great story and a nice change of pace

This was a really pleasant surprise. I’m a huge fan of Cameron’s but a mystery is something of a departure from his previous work. This was very well executed and kept me guessing and a nice change from most historical fiction which seems to all occupy the same time periods and locations. 17th century Venice is a new one for me and I very much enjoyed it. Looking forward to the sequel.
