Resumen del Editor

“Adrian McKinty is a gifted storyteller I love to read, and Sean Duffy is a character you will never forget.”Don Winslow, #1 internationally bestselling author

From New York Times bestselling author Adrian McKinty comes the next thrilling mystery in the Edgar Award-winning Sean Duffy detective series

Slamming the door on the hellscape of 1980s Belfast, Detective Inspector Sean Duffy hopes that the 1990s are going to be better for him and the people of Northern Ireland. As a Catholic cop in the mainly Protestant RUC he still has a target on his back, and with a steady girlfriend and a child the stakes couldn’t be higher.

After handling a mercurial triple agent and surviving the riots and bombings and assassination attempts, all Duffy wants to do now is live. But in his final days in charge of Carrickfergus CID, a missing persons report captures his attention. A fifteen-year-old traveler girl has disappeared and no one seems to give a damn about it. Duffy begins to dig and uncovers a disturbing underground of men who seem to know her very well. The deeper he digs the more sinister it all gets. Is finding out the truth worth it if DI Duffy is going to get himself and his colleagues killed? Can he survive one last case before getting himself and his family out over the water?

Sean Duffy, I missed you!

Sean Duffy is one of my favorite book characters. He may be my actual favorite. Gerard Doyle is a splendid narrator who really brings Duffy's idiosyncrasies to life.

It has been several years since Book 6 was published, and I felt Sean's absence like an old friend. To say I was excited when I found out this book was being released is simply incorrect. I was sooo happy. The book did not let me down.

I vaguely recall an article stating that Book 7 would be either the first of 3 final books or 2 final books about Duffy. I also think they all might already be written. There is a part of me that simply wants them all released NOW; however, I know that it is better if they are spread out over a period of time - which I am sure is what will happen.

I have no doubt the final book(s) will be just as wonderful as this one and the previous 6.

Thanks you Mr. McKinty for giving us a wonderful story, written over a series of books. Can't say enough good things about them.

Another fun entry to the series

Adrian McKinty is back to work with Sean Duffy. A worthwhile addition to the series. The writing and narration are both great.

The Perfect Book

I’ve really come to love just about everything that Adrian McKinty writes, and Gerard Doyle is my favorite narrator. It’s good to receiver another Detective Duffy novel!

Best one yet

Has Sean Duffy finally returned only for this to be the last of the second-best series going (Slow Horses series is the best)? The Detective Up Late has all the suspense, thrills and chills, and vivid description of the rest of the series as well as humor in the form of quips and characters--the always welcome Mrs. Campbell, birdwatchers, and even the cat. McKinty even handles the child well by not making her too precious or giving her too much page-space. Every time the case hits a dead end and you wonder how the story can go on, it goes on in a stunning way.

I gave performance a 4 because, even though I can't imagine these books read by anyone else, I had some trouble at times distinguishing who was speaking. Story is 5+++. I'm not generally thrilled by thrillers, only a select few driven by character, voice, and fine writing. The Duffy series is all of those.

Excellent as usual

Well worth waiting for! I don’t want this to be the last Duffy book but, if it is, it ends well.

Adrian McKinty writes a brilliant book. Duffy is a very interesting character- an erudite Catholic in the Northern Ireland police force during The Troubles. He has evolved a lot over the course of this series but I’m glad to see the pint glasses of vodka gimlet are still his tipple of choice. And his dedication to his job is still strong and he’s now a family man.

Great story! Great characters! Great writing! And, it goes without saying, the narration by Gerard Doyle is exceptional. I didn’t care for the beeping censorship on the audiobook.

I prefer this series (and the Michael Forsythe books) to McKinty’s stand-alones. Even though they are good they don’t have Sean Duffy.
