Dreamer's Riot
A magically empowered woman fights fearsome enemies, cultivates allies, and faces a pervasive evil as this progression fantasy continues.
Potestia may not have been built in a day, but it'll burn in one. Lillith has already freed its slaves and relieved the people of their former king, but she doesn't plan to stop there. With many of her safe houses discovered and enemies lurking in every corner, she has little time to rest anyway. Her only choice is to keep fighting. At least she has the wonderful Sarafyna to warm her heart—and watch her back.
There's certainly plenty of work for them to do. Lillith and Sara are organizing communities, delivering essential supplies, and educating the common folk about mana. But Lillith isn't sure just how firm a guiding hand she should have. She wants to empower these people to imagine their own world, without a monarch, but she can't simply step back and allow another Potestia to rise up....
Unfortunately, some of the commoners want another monarch: Lillith. And they'd like her to find a king as well. Matchmakers, however, are the least of Lillith's troubles. Enemies are hiding in the shadows and waiting to trap her, and all the while a war is brewing. A man claiming to be the rightful king wants to begin a revolution of his own, but can Lillith accept his vision over hers? Or will she be too busy lying in bed, fighting the deadly threat growing inside of her?
It's a lot for one young woman to carry on her shoulders, but as usual Lillith is determined to meet the challenge.

Also I’m glad Edward didn’t betray his sister, you had me worried there for a good minute not gonna lie.
I loved it

I think the worst of it for me is the mc sounds/reads like a edgy teen who just discovered the totally origional 'authority bad' narrative and tries to sound smart.
they also killed off some of the most liked characters in this book for whatever reason. I won't say here because spoilers. they also ended a sub plot offscreen and it's resold through another character...like why?
I dont know if i will pick up the next one as this one was just....bad. they also leave little reason to return to the series.
please stop pontificating

The rest is her rushing into things as arrogant as any noble time and time again and paying for thinking she is untouchable. She never learns at all.
Then the author makes the communities unrealistic where everyone is just willing to share their resources which would never happen. There is no way a miner breaking his back to mine ore is going to be happy receiving the same of everything as the person working the orchard plucking fruit or the clerk at a store. Nor as those who would refuse to do anything and just take the free donated resources. This all share and equal mean no matter how hard you work you receive the same as someone who does nothing or very little. No way would that work at all anywhere even in a utopia. That is probably my main gripe with the book.
it's all ideals with no actual plan or follow through. Something that will shatter the instance the crisis is over.
Worst of the series

But I don't like this one. The politics that guided the first two books was great. But now I feel like I'm suffocating on the main characters obsessions with the politics.
Most of this book is just Lilith whining about not getting things right, and because of that, we get long winded speeches over and over and over. The problem is, we heard these same speeches in the first two books and now it's just amplified to the max.
I actually agree with everything Lilith says. I would support her fight and join her even. She's smart and is a reflection of our modern times in America. But I am tired of the monologues that just repeat and repeat. The same views being expressed again and again.
Every single time a new character is brought in, queue Lilith's deep inner thoughts that elaborate on the speeches we have already broken down time and again.
I just want to have fun. Not be constantly reminded of what we are going through in our real lives. Maybe some actually magic that's not repeatedly interrupted by monologues.
I wish I could get my money back.
Loved the first two, not this
