Stick with it tell the end its worth it.
Yeah the MC gets kicked into a pit of despair for the first half of the book and he isn't some mary sue, its about how he deals with and overcomes the challenges so stick with it the ending is very satisfying.

There’s no cultivation like street cultivation!
Very solid story with a great MC. Enjoyed every bit of it and couldn’t wait to get back to it amid work and other obligations. Picked up books 2 and 3 to binge as well.

Good not great book
I enjoyed listening to this one but have no desire to continue this series. A huge part of the reason is due to Mike. I get the whole cultivation genre always has an egotistical idiot who wants to destroy the MC but Mike's motivation was just stupid. All the other stuff made this book worth the credit and Mike's underwhelming grudge against Rick made this series stop after book one for me.

awesome modern take on cultivation
This book was great! The story was fantastic and I love the nice dynamics of the characters between each other. The story pacing was nice and the narration was phenomenal! A great underdog story for sure!
