Dr. Thornton isn't a murderer. He's just a grump with a body in his pool.
Maxwell Thornton isn’t really a people person, but that never mattered to him because he’d lived for his career. After losing a patient during an operation, he’s shaken and afraid to pick up the scalpel again. He resigns his position in the city and takes a job as sole GP in the isolated town of Rainy Dale, Texas, population 1,001.
Rainy Dale is populated with eccentrics who test his patience and seem to think he’s not only there to treat their illnesses, but that he’s also there to hold their hand and be their therapist. When one of his most annoying patients ends up dead and floating in Maxwell’s pool, he has some explaining to do to the local sheriff.
Sheriff Royce Callum is intelligent, determined, and more attracted to the new doctor than he would like. He can’t imagine Maxwell is a murderer, but he also can’t exactly ignore a corpse in the sexy doctor’s pool.

Overall I enjoyed this audiobook
Overall I enjoyed this book. The narrator does a great job with the different voices for each character. The mystery is intruiging and kept me listening. I liked both the main characters a lot and the romance is building quite nicely between the Max and Royce. I like that Royce can see past Max's prickly exterior. I hope the rest of the series is released in audio.

Good story. Good narration.
The dynamic between Royce and Maxwell is the main draw of this story. The mystery is interesting, but the medical and police procedures don't feel very realistic. The small town drama is extremely realistic though. Been there. Done that.
This is an entertaining listen if you are looking for a cozy mystery with a bit of romance.

Good mystery

What A Delight!
Great mystery with interesting characters. If you like Josh Lanyon’s Secrets & Scrabble series, this is your kind of thing. I’m familiar with Matt Haynes narration, and he doesn’t disappoint. True talent. Highly recommended!

Glad I took a chance on this series!
So happy I took a chance on this series. If you’re looking for a small town murder series with gay protagonists, this is right for you. There are a couple of scenes with some heat but they’re pretty short. Some reviewers mention the southern accents, and while yes some are over the top, I really didn’t mind. I listen to these to escape, not assess real Texan accents. My biggest wish for the series would be that the protagonists take more initiative in solving the crimes, more investigation and intelligent decisions/deductions. Hopefully with future volumes they will.

Amazing listen!
I absolutely love listening to this story! I love reading about this mystery with Max and Royce. So hearing this narration just made it even better. Matt Haynes just made me love this story even more then before. I just couldn't stop listening once I started. He brings this story to life and I love it!
