But after two attempts on his life and his unnerving emotional attachment to Royce, more and more Maxwell wonders if staying in Rainy Dale is the logical choice. Perhaps it’s time to run back to Los Angeles, where he can keep his body and his heart safe.

Happy for more

I really enjoyed this book. It has a solid cozy mystery coupled with engaging characters. I thoroughly enjoy "grumpy guy" characters and Max, well he's a grumpy guy trying to reform and it is adorable, funny and endearing all at once. And Royce's kindness is just the perfect foil and he makes me smile. The mystery is solid, with a nice bit of twist. The narrator does well, providing distinct character voices and his sense of pacing elevated the tension and suspense at just the right time. This was really good and I hope we get book 3 in audio soon.

Truly great mystery series

Thoroughly enjoyed this series from the start. Maxwell quirky and somewhat grumpy personality meshes with sweet, but protective Royce perfectly. The books are wonderful but the audiobooks just keep getting better. Matt Haynes narration is spot on and wonderful. He brings both Maxwell and Royce’s personality to life perfectly. I can’t wait for more as Rainydale continues to experience the highest Murder rate any small town has ever seen.

Better and better

I loved the audible edition of this book. It really brought the characters of Maxwell and Royce to life. This mystery series is excellent and should be read by all. I was thrilled when Ms. Wynne started having them recorded and look forward to the next one.

First and foremost one of my favorite series to read. totally enjoyed the book but love listening to the audible also. Matt Hayes is able to capture the essence of the character and one of my favorite characters in a book is Royce.

Haynes is fantastic!

I love this series and definitely wanted to listen to the audio version. Haynes makes the characters personalities pop. Great tone and flow, can't wait for the next.

Good story. Good narration.

Another entertaining adventure with the standoffish Doctor Thorton. He isn't getting anymore charming, but he is learning to be a touch more sensitive to others, but that doesn't keep him from getting into more trouble.

The mystery had a few intriguing elements that kept me engaged. The romance between Maxwell and Royce is evolving slowly. Matt Haynes' performance adds some character to the story. I recommend this story if you are looking for a cozy murder mystery with a dash of M/M romance and an unusual murder mystery set in a small Texas town.

Amazing listen!

I love this series so much! I love the mystery within this story but also the relationship between Maxwell and Royce. I just couldn't stop listening once I started. Matt Haynes has done another amazing job with bring these characters and story to life. I can't wait for the next one.

Yessss I am so obsessed with this series. I love the good Dr and the sheriff so much. This narrator does such an amazing job with these charters and their personalities. I can't wait for the rest of the series to come out on audio. This series is a must-read and honestly, a must-listen. I have read the books already but Matt just has this way of bringing the charters to life in your mind. I am so excited for the next book.

Loved this book

Another great story in this series. The story and dialogue really seized me and I wanted it to keep on going. I can’t wait for the next in the series to be published in audio so that I can continue on this voyage.

Matt Haynes does an amazing job of bringing this story to life. Scalpels & Psychopaths is the second book in the Dr. Maxwell Thornton Murder Mysteries series. Having read and loved the first book I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one!
I was not disappointed!
I love Max and Royce together, they just fit each other in an imperfectly perfect kind of way.
Once again these two are caught in the middle of murder, mystery and intrigue.
While Royce is investigating this murder, Max is still trying to adjust to small town life.
All this makes for quite the drama, as they are still in the very new relationship stage of life.
This is a great read that I devoured in one sitting! I can't wait for more of these two!
