Resumen del Editor

Would life be better without alcohol?

It’s the nagging question more and more of us are finding harder to ignore, whether we have a “problem” with alcohol or not. After all, we yoga. We green juice. We meditate. We self-care. And yet, come the end of a long workday, the start of a weekend, an awkward social situation, we drink. One glass of wine turns into two turns into a bottle. In the face of how we care for ourselves otherwise, it’s hard to avoid how alcohol really makes us feel: terrible.

How different would our lives be if we stopped drinking on autopilot? If we stopped drinking altogether? Really different, it turns out. Really better. Frank, funny, and always judgment-free, Sober Curious is a bold guide to choosing to live hangover-free, from Ruby Warrington, one of the leading voices of the new sobriety movement.

Drawing on research, expert interviews, and personal narrative, Sober Curious is a radical takedown of the myths that keep so many of us drinking. Inspiring, timely, and blame-free, Sober Curious is both conversation starter and handbook - essential information that empowers listeners to transform their relationship with alcohol so we can lead our most fulfilling lives.

Good take-a-ways

The book makes some really good points regarding the impact of alcohol and the benefits of abstinence from it. I found the reading to sound a little “mechanical” at times and, beyond the physical wellness discussed, the spiritual aspects of the book were a little “out-there” for me (toward the end I found myself skipping forward through parts that I felt were a side step away from the message I bought this book for).

Great alternative approach but confusing ending

Love the honesty and grit but felt overwhelmed and confused by ending. Should I just hate myself because I’m white? Seems contradictory to the energy of the whole book. Can’t recommend because of hyper political ending. Loved the narration though....

Excellent

So much better than This Naked Mind. A much more realistic approach to alcohol moderation and/or abstinence.

Game changer

Well-written, well-researched, enlightening, often fun, even more often deep and serous. Can be a real game changer no matter where you want to be - depending upon interpretation, and whether the author would agree or not, but I don’t think she’d be mad - on the sober and/or drink-less spectrum. Will read again.

wish I could get my money back.

The term sober curious has no place in my vocabulary. I tried to finish it, but couldn't. After listening to three books before this one about quitting a 100% and this one talking about still being able to drink as sober curious just didn't work for me. Maybe it will help you, good luck!! Wishing everyone the best. please keep in mind that the author said she only drank a couple of times a week and still drinks to this day, just not often, she don't say how often she drinks currently.

Something Everybody Should Hear

I've suppose you could say that I've always been curious about whether my life would be better if i quit drinking. This book puts structure, support, reason, and encouragement behind that thought and presents the material in a convincing but completely genuine way.

Meh

Rather preachy. Didn't learn much. But it's nice to be reminded why sobriety, or moderation, is important.

Good ideas, but veers off into Authors viewpoints

Some good ideas in there, but lots of writers viewpoints skew idea of book.

Just what I needed

Love this. Not shame based. But true and to the point. Figure out how you use alcohol to hide and run from yourself and your world. Open your mind to accepting reality and embrace your mind spirit and body. Soooo inspiring and grateful for this book. Also I love Ruby’s accent and voice- she is to the point and very soothing to listen to! Currently on day 30 of no booze :)

Definitely recommend this book and it’s for ANYONE- alcohol issues or not- inspiration to live without alcohol, live with integrity and facing our lives head on!

Great, insightful book - but I had to skip a chapter

Amazing book that really dives into societal norms on alcohol and the benefits of drinking less (or none). BUT I had to skip over the chapter titled 'Vision for a Hangover-Free Society' that is truly her rambling on about white supremacy and how people drinking are essentially numbing themselves which makes them more complicit to the problem. Ridiculous - no need for the chapter and completely irrelevant to her overall message with this book.
