Acerca de esta escucha
A bestselling self-care expert invites you to find inspiration in the changes and challenges of aging—and create a more authentic, soul-directed life.
What does aging mean to you? We often look at aging through the lens of what is lost, not what is gained. But as we grow older, we can find the freedom to cultivate a deeper, more meaningful experience of life. “The journey through midlife and beyond,” says Cheryl Richardson, “is when we make the shift from less ego to more soul.” With Self-Care for the Wisdom Years, this bestselling author shares her most valuable insights for helping you age consciously, so you can flourish as a wise and compassionate elder.
Self-care is the key to a rich and joyous experience of aging
Genuine self-care is not about hiding from our aging bodies or denying our mortality. As Cheryl explains, by facing these truths with honesty and presence, we actually disarm our fear and liberate ourselves to focus on what’s truly important. Through six audio sessions, she offers teachings, tools, journaling exercises, and guided practices to help you discover the opportunities and gifts of your later years. Join her to explore:
- A soul-directed life—why aging gives you a new chance to awaken to your authentic self
- Movement and rest—how tuning in to your body’s changing needs makes you stronger and more resilient
- Energy drains—ways to become more aware of and efficient about your vitality
- Investing in authentic connection—how to cultivate a soul family
- Come home to yourself—practices for becoming more present to life as it unfolds
- Awaken aliveness—discover the creativity, sensuality, and authenticity available in your wisdom years
“As we gently and lovingly challenge society’s beliefs about aging,” Cheryl says, “we can welcome in a new, empowered vision of what it means to be an awakened elder.” Her program is an invitation to question your conditioned thoughts about midlife and beyond—and embrace your wisdom years as a time for pleasure, personal authenticity, and new adventures.

As David Brooks observes, “There is one skill that lies at the heart of any healthy person, family, school, community organization, or society: the ability to see someone else deeply and make them feel seen—to accurately know another person, to let them feel valued, heard, and understood.” And yet we humans don’t do this well. All around us are people who feel invisible, unseen, misunderstood. In How to Know a Person, Brooks sets out to help us do better, posing questions that are essential for all of us: If you want to know a person, what kind of attention should you cast on them?

Much of what plagues us—people pleasing, staying in stale relationships, negative habits—all point to what happens when we are out of touch with what truly makes us feel whole.

Now, 10 years and many studies later, she expands her body of work to explore a brand-new take on self-compassion. Although kindness and self-acceptance allow us to be with ourselves as we are, in all our glorious imperfection, the desire to alleviate suffering at the heart of this mindset isn't always gentle, sometimes it's fierce.

So Insightful!
I chose to listen to the Wisdom Years as I am well into those years and have made some big changes in my life recently. I was seeking some guidance on how to tap into and enjoy the years I have left. I found the information provided was both affirming and uplifting, while still being truthful and real. I plan to listen a 2nd time and delve more deeply into what the author suggests for being present and taking in the beauty and wonder of my Wisdom Years.

Cheryl Richardson
Amazing journey. Always timeless wisdom at the leading edge. I met Cheryl 30 years or so ago at a Natural Products show. At that time I was starting my business and she was giving 30 minute consults. I got one and it changed my life . She asked A couple of questions and said I needed an assistant and possibly someone remote as phone calls and documents were my major need. Before that was a thing haha. Always ahead of the curve. I have enjoyed her CD courses, and now digital content.

I enjoyed this book so much . I have listened to other books of Cheryl and followed her in the past on Hayhouse,
The wisdom in the story has touched my heart . I think everyone should listen to her words ...find that missing part of your soul .
What are you waiting for ? If not now when ?

Beware - Your life may not match up
The author makes a LOT of assumptions about the listener and what kind of life they've lived. She says things like "As you approach your 50s, you've finally got your finances sorted, your kids are all out of the house, you're a master of your career and you're probably feeling a bit bored." I'm paraphrasing but that's the gist of it.
Well what if you've never done all that? What if your life has taken a turn for the worse in your 30s or 40s and you're still trying to recover? What if you've never mastered a profession or activity? What if your life is falling apart and you're approaching your 50s? Well too bad she doesn't address that. She only seems to want to address successful people. OK FINE but this should be addressed BEFORE WE BUY THE BOOK. The reason they don't do this is obvious, they wouldn't sell as many books.
If you're approaching your 50s and looking to make massive changes because you're depressed in life and looking, searching for hope on how to turn it all around OR if the pandemic changed things so radically in your life you're now trying to find motivation and help to get back on your feet again OR if you're not a perfect person - this book is likely NOT for you.
If you simply want practical advice for how to address all of life's challenges in middle age? Yeah this book isn't it. Not by a long shot.
Also beware - this book can be triggering and make you feel like a failure because you don't match up to her perfect ideals of middle aged people. Hell the way she presents life at 50s is like from a Hallmark movie.
But the good news is, there are plenty of books out there to address those needs AND plenty of podcasts that are free. You're not a failure even if everything you've tried hasn't worked out. We're still alive and because of that fact, every passing moment is another opportunity to turn it all around. Find the tools that will work for you. This one certainly did NOT work for me and I'd give it zero stars if possible.
