Acerca de esta escucha

From New York Times bestselling author Kris Carr, comes a transformational book about love, loss, and all the life-changing insights we receive when we embrace them.

A few years ago, Kris Carr’s world was falling apart. Her father was dying, she had to pivot her business because of the pandemic, and she was on the verge of reaching her twenty-year milestone of living with an incurable Stage IV cancer diagnosis.

While sitting in a CVS parking lot, she broke down, finally allowing herself to feel the massive stress and sadness she had been suppressing in order to seem strong for those around her, and for herself.

And then she asked herself, “If embracing my intense emotions helped me feel even the slightest bit better, why was I so determined to avoid them? And given how all-encompassing this hint of catharsis felt, where else in my life have I been avoiding grief?”

In this book, Kris shares her (embarrassing, painful, helpful, hilarious, and sometimes inappropriate) stories and observations about what to expect when you’re not expecting your world to fall apart.

If your life has been turned upside down—whether it be the dissolving of a relationship or marriage, the end of a job or career, any other number of significant unexpected transitions. . . or, like Kris, you are wrestling with the pain that comes from an illness or the death of a loved one, this book is filled with real-life experiences, practices, and insights that can help you feel better—not cured—but better.

It will provide comfort and community as you learn that these big messy emotions can be a catalyst to take inventory of your life, figure out what matters most, and reset. . . because as Kris says, “when we’re brave enough to tend to our hearts: Our messy emotions can teach us how to be free––not free from pain, but free from the fear of pain and the barrier it creates to fully living.”

The delivery and bravery communicating the action of vulnerability is the chewy nougat in the center of life.
The ability to touch another human being, and make a deep impact is the only goal of being a creative, leaving this planet better than you found it. Kristin Carr has a gift of communication…In a world of quasi-introspection and package self help, the honesty and delivery of this book will only add to even the seasoned and destiny driven creatives on they’re journey. If your an artist-creative this is definitely one for your library.

Simply amazing. Spoke to me on so many levels and in so many ways. Gonna buy a hard copy after listening to highlight all the parts I loved. It’s one of those books you want all the people you love to read. Kris does an amazing job boldly addressing what we often want to skip over or ignore in life while acknowledging all the different forms of loss and grief from death of close family to loss of pets to loss of relationships and everything in between. Kris does it in a such an honest, tender, understanding yet practical way. I cried and laughed and came away feeling as though I had both practical advice and had just had the most amazing coaching/therapy session and the most refreshing and loving conversation with my best friend. Many thanks and much love Kris!

Kris is down to earth and so relatable in her writing. It’s inspiring and incredible helpful to feel seen and heard in the way she writes about coming face to face with our own mortality and others who matter most to us. Her advice is insightful and deep. I ended up writing quite a few things down to remember from this book.

How much I related to the author

I listened to this book 21 years after my mom died , 2 years after my grandmother and best friend died and 2 months after I lost my shotgun sidekick fur baby after 13 years. I realize I've never allowed myself to process and grieve their deaths. I think I'm ready now because Kris's book taught me there is no right or wrong way to do it. This is a read for anyone who cries or doesn't after losing someone you love and you really, really, really want to come out on the other side feeling whole again.
