Resumen del Editor

The launch of a gripping new supernatural terror trilogy by the acclaimed author of Coldbrook, The Silence, and the Alien-Predator Rage War trilogy

There's an underground black market for arcane things. Akin to the trade in rhino horns or tiger bones, this network traffics in remains of gryphons, faeries, goblins, and other fantastic creatures.

When her fiance Vince goes missing, Angela Gough, an American criminology student, discovers he was a part of this secretive trade. It's a big-money business-shadowy, brutal, and sometimes fatal. As the trail leads her deeper into London's dark side, she crosses paths with a crime lord whose life is dedicated to collecting such relics.

Then Angela discovers that some of these objects aren't as ancient as they seem. Some of them are fresh.

Just ok

Slow moving and not very exciting. The narration was great and some of the characters were cool but overall not worth reading.

distracting narrator almost ruined the story

mildly entertaining. wish they'd gone further with the history or intellectual depth of this interesting concept. but enjoyable for a non-committal fling.

My first issue was with the narrator's bizarre 'accent' for dialogue that made the characters sound like french automatons. It was distracting to the point that I almost stopped listening.

My second issue is something I run into all the time with male authors writing female characters. There are certain points in the book where the momentum comes to a grating halt as the author shoehorns in an unrealistic scene that reeks with the male gaze. All of the female characters are either lusty & sex driven or hideous, repulsive hags (literally a witch, in one case). Most of the time it's not obvious, but then a heavy handed clumsy scene would disrupt the flow of the story, because I'd have to stop just to roll my eyes.

Fun

This was a fun listen. I really enjoyed the story and look forward to the next book. My only gripe is that some of the narrator's "voices" were annoying. I didn't care for the way she portrayed the voice of lielu, (not sure if it is spelled right,) or the whisp at the end. I am looking forward to the 2nd book.

New Favorite Author

After The Silence, I needed my paranormal fix, and this gave it to me. Esther is an amazing voice actress and wonderful at keeping me captivated with the story Mr. Lebbon wrote out.

terrible narration

I think I would have enjoyed the story more with a better narrator. I don't think she understood the author's characters, and her voices were ridiculous. The story itself was decent, and I'll listen to the next book if it has a different storyteller.

Well written, original plot

Original plot and well written, vocal work good but not incredible. Overall - would definitely rate this as ‘a worthwhile listen’.

Good story, but one little thing….

Ok so it’s a little thing but it was repeated several times. The main character is supposed to be American, living in London. Ok fine but even when she’s thinking in her head she’s using British terms and slangs, and then remind you again that she’s supposed to be American. Little bit of a disconnect there, where I feel like the author just decided last minute to make her not British and was trying to convince himself as well as the readers that that had happened… Again it’s a small thing but it bothered me when it kept happening.

Stop with this one

This book is great, each character is unique story is well thought out and explained. With this said, do yourself a favor and don't read the other books it all goes downhill from here; characters are weak, plot points are ignored. The ending of this book is perfectly fine to end things on.

Strong Meh.

The only good part was the narrator's bad American accents. Had potential but just never really paid off.
