Excellent Mystery

This is the best of the many Dick Francis novels that I've listened to.
Complex, flawed main character. Unusual crime. Challenging mystery. Ruthless villain. All this forms an excellent story that is superbly interpreted by Simon Prebble. Just the right voice intonations, emotional expression, balanced emphasis, dramatic development.
He brings the characters and the conflict to life.

I loved this book. great detail, Dick Francis style. I drove many miles. Stayed awake.

Not your typical protagonist

I tire of the hero who defeats all criminals, no matter how many and how well trained compared to the untrained hero. I would recommend this book.

Selling wine and whiskey can be adventurous.

Tony Beach had no idea how dangerous or adventurous opening a wine shop in a small town in England would be. The characters are a wide variety and interesting. Narrators are spot on with the English accent. Loved the book and think it would make a great movie.

It still holds up.

Quite enjoyable story and characters. The hero by default left me feeling that even I could have done it, if only... Simon Prebble's performance nails it.
Much fun.
