Resumen del Editor

The new novel by NBA All-Star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, starring brothers Mycroft and Sherlock Holmes.

It is 1872, and a series of gruesome murders is the talk of London. Mycroft Holmes - now 26 and a force to be reckoned with at the War Office - has no interest in the killings; however his brother Sherlock has developed a distasteful fascination for the macabre to the detriment of his studies, much to Mycroft's frustration.

When a ship carrying cargo belonging to Mycroft's best friend Cyrus Douglas runs aground, Mycroft persuades Sherlock to serve as a tutor at the orphanage that Douglas runs as a charity, so that Douglas might travel to see what can be salvaged. Sherlock finds himself at home among the street urchins, and when a boy dies of a suspected drug overdose, he decides to investigate, following a trail of strange subterranean symbols to the squalid opium dens of the London docks. Meanwhile a meeting with a beautiful Chinese woman leads Mycroft to the very same mystery, one that forces him to examine the underbelly of the opium trade that is enriching his beloved Britain's coffers.

As the stakes rise, the brothers find that they need one another's assistance and counsel. But a lifetime of keeping secrets from each other may have catastrophic consequences....

Exceptional narrator. Very good story.

What a fun listen!! Very good story. Good development of characters. Young Mycroft and Sherlock are very interesting. Authors have managed to keep them authentic to the original.
Lots of side stories. It’s interesting to hear English sports teams being brought into the story. Much research has been successfully woven into the plot.

Surprised and delighted ....

Actually delighted with the complexity of the plotting in this book. Also, delighted with the narrator, and finally, also delighted with how well fleshed out the characters are. Sherlock's personality is so well described as a self-absorbed, disdainful teenager learning to manage his genius, Mycroft is on the cusp of becoming a wily, sly and emotionally hidden major player, the portrayal of the queen made me realize why people bowed before her (the narrator knocked that one out of the park). And going back to the plotting, so many aspects, so many weavings of strands, all very believable. This book is really rather astonishingly fine.

Suspenseful and Wonderfully Dramitzed

Enjoyed from beginning to end. I like the difference takes on each ones character when they were younger. Must say I was a little taken aback concerning their parents emotional outcome.

Good, but not as good as the first

Excellent performance by Lynch, however this sequel was a little harder to follow than the first in the series. I still really enjoyed it and can’t wait to read the next!

An Entertaining Diversion

Acolytes of the Canon will find little to quibble about in this workmanlike pastiche. It gives interesting backstory as to why Mycroft is a recluse, and Sherlock's growing pains.

Most essentially it doesn't paint Mycroft as some kind of weirdo (looking at you Stephen Fry).

I liked it and will perhaps give other projects by Kareem Abtul-Jabbar and Anna Waterhouse a try. Mr. Abdul-Jabbar and Sherlock Holmes, who'd have thought it?

Very Enjoyable

My only complaint is that it had to end. Feeling the same void effect when I finished the Sherlock Holmes stories.

A nice surprise.

I enjoyed the performance by the narrator. I'm from Trinidad and was pleasantly surprised by his accent. I was also surprised because I got a new perspective on the times and found myself googling facts. A good entertaining read/listen.
