From the internationally best-selling author of Lying in Wait, a biting and masterful new “dark jewel of a novel” (A.J. Finn, number-one New York Times best-selling author) that explores the many ways families can wreak emotional havoc across generations, appealing to fans of HBO’s acclaimed series Succession.

All three of the Drumm brothers were at the funeral.

But one of them was in the coffin.

William, Brian, and Luke: three boys, born a year apart, trained from birth by their wily mother to compete for her attention. They play games, as brothers do...yet even after the Drumms escape into the world beyond their windows, those games - those little cruelties - grow more sinister, more merciless, and more dangerous. And with their lives entwined like the strands of a noose, only two of the brothers will survive.

Hailed by New York Times best-selling author Shari Lapena as “brilliant, engrossing", and perfect for fans of breathtaking suspense, Little Cruelties gazes unflinchingly into the darkness collecting in the corners of childhood homes, hiding beneath marriage beds, clasped in the palms of two brothers shaking hands. And it confirms that Liz Nugent is truly “a force to be reckoned with” (Lisa Jewell, New York Times best-selling author) in contemporary fiction.

I loved the different takes from each brother on the same events in their lives, ala Poisonwood Bible. Great, distinct personalities and storyline told in a style uniquely her own. Loved it! Performance stellar, as well.

Seriously, my new favorite author.

This is my first book by Liz Nugent but it definitely will not be my last. I enjoyed the story, the characters and most of all the different points of viewevery.

EXCELLENT!!!

First - the audio was all over the place on this one. Too soft in areas that I had to turn the volume up. Then it would be too loud. No happy medium.

Second - the story is about family dynamics and drama. It was all over the place as well. Not my cup of tea but I powered through it. Now I am wondering why…I can’t get those listening hours back.

Such a hodgepodge

A unique dysfunctional family story.
All the narrators were terrific
It’s very well written, too.

Loved this book!

I find it hard to believe that so many therapists wouldn’t tell the characters to stop being so mean and destructive at some point

So mean

Liz Nugent, my new favorite author. This book reminds me of Leanne Moriarty, lots of well-developed characters and plenty of intrigue. All of Liz Nugent’s books are great, but this one should be made into a film or miniseries.

Best book I’ve read in a long time!

Very very long. Not as good as Liz Nugent’s other books. These brothers were horrible to each other.

How long it was.

Love this author but I think she got her POV completely wrong in this one.

I think this story would’ve been much more intriguing written through all the women’s viewpoints—or at least shared with the women.

I only say this bc it’s not just one of the brothers but all three, whose stories sync up to one another so closely that there was no need to go through history three different times to hear the same story. Each brother told the other two brothers’ stories so well I knew who the dead brother was after hearing the first POV.

I thought the “little cruelties” came off as two men whining about everything including their seriously ill brother. Kind of made a mockery of mental illness, using tropes.

It finally got interesting at the very end, written in the daughter’s POV. I would’ve liked to know her story, and hear her descriptions of the men. She was the one impacted and influenced by all the “Little Cruelties”.

Disappointed
