Sinéad O'Connor
Blessed with a singular voice and a fiery temperament, Sinéad O’Connor rose to massive fame in the late 1980s and 1990s with a string of gold records. By the time she was twenty, she was world famous—living a rock star life out loud. From her trademark shaved head to her 1992 appearance on Saturday Night Live when she tore up Pope John Paul II’s photograph, Sinéad has fascinated and outraged millions.
In Rememberings, O’Connor recounts her painful tale of growing up in Dublin in a dysfunctional, abusive household. Inspired by a brother’s Bob Dylan records, she escaped into music. She relates her early forays with local Irish bands; we see Sinéad completing her first album while eight months pregnant, hanging with Rastas in the East Village, and soaring to unimaginable popularity with her cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2U.”
Intimate, replete with candid anecdotes and told in a singular form true to her unconventional career, Sinéad’s memoir is a remarkable chronicle of an enduring and influential artist.

The best celebrity memoir audiobooks are in a league of their own—there is no greater listening experience than a memoir performed by the celebrity behind the title. Their charisma and authenticity greatly enhance the experience, making it all the more engaging. Many listeners who would never think to read a celebrity memoir in print gravitate to the genre in audio. There’s something magical about hearing, in their own voice, the nitty-gritty of a star’s path.
Editor's Pick
A raw, honest memoir from one of rock's most misunderstood musicians
''I don't know no shame,'' sings Sinéad O'Connor in her electrifying breakthrough second single, ''Mandinka,'' and like that song's raw power, the singer unapologetically reveals all—or what she can recall—in her new memoir,
Rememberings. From the onset, O'Connor says she's written it in her own voice as if she's having a conversation with someone, and it definitely sounds like that. Mental illness is a central point as she candidly narrates her suffering at the hands of her mother and how it shaped her life. These early chapters are undoubtedly the strongest and truly bring you into her heart, placing the missing pieces of a complex puzzle and cementing her as a true rock legend. While the stories of her early life are traumatic with graphic depictions of child abuse, they evoke compassion for O'Connor. Through it all, she is fearless and owns up to everything she has done.
Rememberings is a must-listen, and O'Connor must be commended for calling out hypocrisy wherever she saw it and for staying true to herself in the 34 years since her epic debut LP. —Edwin D., Audible Editor

Her interest in Jamaican reggae is also fascinating in the sense of what bound her to the lyrics, melodies, and anyone willing to patiently explain these things to her.
No woman on earth is completely immune to predatory “surgeons” or other health care professionals, especially ones appearing on tv. Some of the best bits have to do with her tellings of how she had to convince or explain herself to males afraid of her unconventional ways and appearance. From barbers to customs agents. Really hoping she goes back on tour again so I can see her in concert.

It was devastating to learn of her death this week, and listening to her tell her story in her own voice was like a gift, a reminder that she’ll live on in my memory as long as I’m still here. She endured so much, accomplished so much, and was way ahead of her time—speaking out about injustice wasn’t a choice for her, it was who she was.
The truth tellers are usually the ones who suffer most.
I’m so sorry for the unbearable loss those who knew and loved her are now experiencing, and for the tragic loss of her son last year.
Sinead O’Connor is a legend and will be loved by millions including myself for generations to come.
I’ll be ever grateful for her open hearted wisdom and the precious music she shared with all of us.

she was captivating and beautiful but I think I was afraid of her rawness and realness in regards to owning the crazy. I was running from my crazy then.
Such an amazing woman. I love her.
