Learned helpful phrases

I liked that they covered useful phrases that I haven’t heard before in beginning Japanese. I enjoyed the narration from Peter and Naomi sensei. I wished they had used a real woman to portray Ashley rather than a chipmunk.

Good content, horrible acting

Ashley-chan’s voice makes me want to rip my ears off. Her laugh makes me want to die.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This course is for absolute beginners or people who know the basics of basics of Japanese. Pronunciation is handled by a native japanese speaker and covers some of the most basic common mistakes people can have, while not calling them mistakes.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The book uses conversations to introduce various REAL situations one might find in Japan, all by the proxy of Ashley Jones, who has awesome adventures in Japan and really make the course relatable as she meets characters and interacts with a lot of different people

What does Peter Galante and Naomi Kambe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Every time they name drop something I know from Japanese culture (Luna Sea or Utada Hikaru)

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me cry with some scaling in difficulty. In one lesson you learn "How much does this cookie cost?" and in the next lesson "Your hotel room is 108, breakfast is served at 7:00 am with this breakfast ticket". While it might not sound so drastic, the learning curve is brutal.

Any additional comments?

Get it, but download the reading material PDF for the phone, it will save you hours of not understanding something because while it was touched upon in the lessons themselves, down the line not memorizing things like numbers, particles or counters really lags the lessons.

good to learn culture and language.

it is a great book to learn about the culture. they cover so much on that. I bought this to learn speaking Japanese. Awesomely structured.
