Blair Underwood's role as Jesus a highlight.

The way in which Blair spoke the words of Jesus gave me new insights. Often Jesus is presented as having a sort of dreamy holiness, staring off in the distance. Blair's depiction is earthy, real, sometimes sarcastic, sometimes kind. Thank you!

Outstanding Rendition, Particularly the OT

Everyone should listen to a dramatization of the Bible such as this. In particular, the Old Testament performance brings the story of the Scriptures—and even the Psalms and Prophets—to life in a way that can hardly, if ever, be experienced simply by reading, and is true to the way the story was first heard: audibly, as one cohesive narrative.

With that said, I have two issues that really made listening difficult in the New Testament.

1) While I appreciated how some of the Pslams were recited as songs, staying true to the genre, the New Testament performance is pockmarked with the sudden breaking in of over a dozen modern gospel songs, which may have nothing to do with the passage at hand. Listening to Paul only to be bombarded by drums, a saxophone, and full gospel choir (or worse, a bee-bop barbershop quartet), is jarring and interrupts the flow of the letter in a way that does absolutely NO justice to how any letter, ever, has ever been experienced. (Revelation in particular suffers from this—an apocalyptic hellscape is suddenly interrupted by the happy go lucky sound of perky angels singing not in chorus, but in peppy bouncy tunes befitting of the Lion King or a Hawaiian vacation.)

2) This may seem like a small matter, but the voice of God the Father, whom one has gotten to know throughout the 39 books of the Old Testament, changes in the New Testament to the familiar voice of Samuel L. Jackson. Not that Mr. Jackson is a bad voice actor, but something of the continuity of the story is lost as we are greeted with the voice of a stranger at the anointing of Jesus, for example, rather than the voice of the God who has been in the story all along. For folks wishing to experience the whole story of the Bible, the effect makes the NT God out to be someone entirely different than the OT God. Marcion would no doubt be pleased.

With all that said, this book was still worth a credit! As others have noted, there are no book or chapter markers, so it’s listen straight through or nothing! But if listening to the whole Bible is what you want to do, this is one of your best options!

Awesome study tool. You can listen to a whole book and retain the story in a short period of time. The many characters makes it very interesting to listen to. its convenient to listen to while driving. I shared this Audible book and the cds with many people.

PLEASE FIX THIS

I love this reading so much but I can't use it how I want to because it doesn't list the chapters of the Bible. if I want to hear a certain book- I can't do it with this. it seems like it could be fixed or am I the only one? thanks

“Experience.” Perfect word choice

The Word is alive, and we are (whether we realize or not) a part of it’s seamless story.
“The Bible Experience” was not only an incredible production, but a beautiful invitation to step deeper into that realization of the life ever present found in scripture.
This is our history, our present, and our future and “The Bible Experience” is a way to break the unfortunate monotony we may struggle with when reading through scripture in our single voice. They do a great job with assigning each person a different voice, and the detail to background noise was an unexpected treat that just helped to give even more vision and bring us even closer to the very moment these events played out so long ago.

A Great Experience

This was a really great experience. I especially enjoyed the Old Testament and would recommend to all lovers of the Word.

I loved listening to this experience! The stories truly came to life and is definitely alive within me. I definitely recommend for classes, groups and the like.
