A Breath of Fresh Air

What a refreshing Bible translation! Everything is so easy to understand, this is my go-to Bible when I want Scripture in plain English.

Amazing Immersive Experience

This is quite possibly the best version I’ve listened to!! An absolutely amazing Immersive experience!

Walk with Jesus It really brings the life of Jesus to life. It feels as though you are walking His journey with him.

I liked the feeling you were actually walking the walk with Jesus.

I didn't like the depiction presented by the man portraying Jesus. He presented everything as aggressive and scolding. This is not the Jesus I know and love. It's an actor who doesn't know Him.

Best of all New Testament Bibles

Love this translation & the way it is read by all the narrators makes it my favorite of all translations & readings. Due to the relaxed reading I can understand it better & it’s not so dramatic & legalistic as some narrators in other translations. A bazillion nuggets of Gods Word pops through that I don’t normally hear in other narrators or translations. 100% satisfies & have listened to it many times & even enjoy sleeping to it. Definitely looking forward to the Old Testament in this translation & hopefully the same narrator’s.

Excellent Performance

When I think about scripture I hear KJV in my mind but I enjoy several translations. This production of NLT is great! Each of the voice actors bring the words on the pages alive. The music, background sound effects, and levels of their volume progression are good and adding to the spoken word. I enjoy listening specifically to the audiobook or playing in the background while doing tasks.

Excellent recording. Not too dry and not too dramatic

I love this recording. The delivery of the Word is just right. Entertaining but not overly dramatic or overpowered with detracting music/effects. A perfect balance! I look forward hopefully to a similar recording of the OT!

Good job, very accessible

A word before I give my thoughts about this audiobook. I’m guessing that most of the people who would stop to read a review of The Breathe Bible are going to be believers. I am not, and I think it’s important to be clear about that because it may affect what I say.

At the same time, I have great respect for Christianity, and have collected Bible translations since I was 15 years old. I’ve read the New Testament at least a dozen times and the Bible as a whole 5 times. The New Living Translation has long been one of my favorites. From my perspective, it strikes a good balance between accuracy and readability. Its clarity and its graceful writing makes it an especially good candidate for an audiobook production.

And so we have The Breathe Bible. It uses many of the techniques that first (as far as I know) appeared in the Word of Promise (another excellent production but one that unfortunately used the much less accessible NKJV). The techniques include original music, multiple voices, and elimination of many “he said/she said” statements. As a result, many of the “scenes” of the New Testament are performed as exactly that: dramatic scenes. In the Breathe Bible, this is particularly effective in the Gospels and in Revelation.

The Word Of Promise is more heavily “produced” than The Breathe Bible, and the cast of the latter, though excellent throughout, are generally younger and less well-known (at least to me). The clarity of the translation more than makes up for any differences here. Of the many translations available in audiobook format, the NLT is easily one of the most “listenable.”

I’ve read that the producers are hoping (sooner or later) to pair this with the Old Testament. I hope they do. I would love to hear the historical books and the Hebrew Prophets done the same way as the New Testament has been done.
