Very good advice for the most part, could have been more brief

I for the most part loved this book and will take much of its advice to heart. I particularly resonated with the advice to stay passionate and curious about the world no matter how long you live. I would say that Mr. Robbins is a little perseverative when it comes to the diet aspect of the equation, hammering the point again and again and again. I understand that a plant-based diet is key to a long life, but the book easily could have been at least an hour shorter because of how much he rambled on about it. He also shows a lot of his personal grievances with Western society (as someone else pointed out, Robbins is an “aging hippie”) to an excess and though he tries to deny it, he ends up glorifying the “long-lived” indigenous tribes highlighted in the book (who I’m sure have just as many problems as Western society). Finally, he didn’t seem to provide much advice as to how someone on the typical unhealthy Western diet can switch to a plant-based diet in a sustainable way. I would be very curious as to how to switch my diet as someone who’s kind of in the middle of a typical Western diet and a plant-based diet.

This book has everything

This book goes into extensively the subject of the impact of diet, of exercise and of other aspects of lifestyle, including the degree of a person’s social connections, on your chances for longevity and a healthy strong old age. John Robbins reviews the best research and literature through telling stories about others and his own life. It has just been a joy to listen to and a pleasure to hear over and over again. Each time I listen I get more from this rich and dense book.

Changed my Life

I recommend this book often. I've listened to it twice and it really did help change my habits. I was a vegetarian of 20 years who lived on Mac & Cheese. I keep a lot of the wisdom from this book with me. I think Robbins makes this advice practical and accessible to everyone. My favorite thing though is the background research he did and the examples of people from other cultures.

Awesome!

I loved this book. This is a great "read" for anyone wanting to live a healthy life; physical, mental, and spirit. The narrator was great.
