Resumen del Editor

Many parents of teenagers or young adults feel as though they're guessing about what to do next-with mixed results. We want to stay connected with our maturing child, but we're not sure how. And deep down, we fear our child doesn't want or need us. But growing up doesn't have to mean growing apart.

Based on brand-new research and interviews with remarkable families, Growing With equips parents to take steps toward their teenagers and young adults in a mutual journey of intentional growth that trusts God to transform them all. By highlighting three groundbreaking family strategies, authors Kara Powell and Steven Argue show parents that it's never too early or too late to accept the child you have, not the child you wish you had; work toward solutions rather than only identifying problems; develop empathy that nudges rather than judges; fight for your child, not against them; dive into tough discussions about dating, career, and finances; and unleash your child's passions and talents to change our world.

For any parent who longs for their kids to keep their roots even as they spread their wings, Growing With offers practical help and hope for the days-and years-ahead.

Content is Solid but Narration is Stilted

The book came highly recommended and since I have more time to listen to books these days than read, I opted for the Audible version.

I’m returning it and will carve out time for the hard copy.

The content is, indeed solid for Christian parents with kids moving into the teen years and beyond. Unfortunately, the narration is so stilted, it’s distracting. Imagine asking Siri to read a book and that’s close to what it felt like, complete with odd pronunciations of everyday words or emphasis placed on an incorrect syllable.

Even a more soothing or skilled reader would have problems rendering the content into a palatable audio program. The book is chock full of annotated footnotes and there are questions at the end of each section, which make for clunky transitions.

The (perhaps over)use of “ing” words also made this one tougher to follow and stay engaged and it seems as if it would be a much better reference book in either an ebook or hard copy format.

I listen to hours of Audible books and this is the first one I’ve returned because I couldn’t listen any further, though eventually I did make it all of the way through since my real book is stuck somewhere in the USPS system.

Hard to listen to

I love Audible and I think the content of this book is probably really solid, in fact I’m going to buy the printed book now. But the person reading this book on audible sounds so much like a computer generated voice that I couldn’t keep listening to it. Tough listen for me personally.
