Acerca de esta escucha

Every thirty years, an ancient god hosts a very dangerous game.

After Ryder Copeland wakes in a hospital after a suicide attempt, two people immediately try to murder him. A woman named Juliet saves his life and then reveals that he succeeded in his suicide after all. They’re both dead, but a mad god has granted them five more days of life... if they’re willing to kill for it.

Thirteen teams of former suicides now have five days to kill each other, after which Lyssa, the divine progenitor of this death game, will reincarnate the single surviving team into luxurious new lives. Stranger yet, Juliet had the chance to watch Ryder’s life after she died, and now, she’s in love with him.

Ryder can’t imagine falling in love with a woman he just met, let alone killing for her. Yet as they fight other teams of doomed lovers across the urban sprawl of Washington, DC, he can’t let Juliet die. He has to play Lyssa’s game to save a woman who loves him, but he can play it his way: by challenging its god.

"Stupidly good" guy.

“Stupidly good” guy.

The synopsis of the story that is provided is right on. There is no confusion on what you are getting. The story was enjoyable. I’ve been reading a lot of isekai lately and having the guy wake up in the same world was refreshing. The main character is a guy who has a moral compass and tries to do right by those around him while others look out for number one. It was nice to watch how his interactions changed the way others acted, he gave them courage to act.

The whole story is fast paced and so is the romance. It has a, I love you because you love me feel, at first and then progress into something more real. I appreciate a clean story with fade to black.

I was expecting more gamelit elements in the story but It really just felt more general fantasy. There are some unique ability cards that are used so I guess thats where the gamelit comes in.

Overall: I enjoyed the book and the characters. The narrators were pleasant to listen to and did a good job. A good read.
