Reva Ewing, a former member of the Secret Service and a security specialist for Roarke Enterprises, is a prime suspect in a double homicide. She had every reason to want to kill her husband, the renowned artist Blair Bissel. Not only was he having an affair, he was having it with her best friend.

But Lieutenant Eve Dallas, who's on the case, believes Reva is innocent. Eve's instincts tell her that the murder scene looks too perfectly staged, the apparent answers too obvious. And when she digs for more, she discovers that at nearly the exact time a kitchen knife was jammed into the victim's ribs, the passcode to his art studio was changed - and all of the data on his computer deliberately corrupted.

To Roarke, it's the computer attack that poses the real threat. Signs show that this is the nightmare his company has secretly been preparing for. He and Reva have been under a code-red government contract to develop a program that would shield against a new breed of hackers, the Doomsday Group. These techno-terrorists with brilliant minds and plenty of financial backing hack into systems, steal data, and corrupt computer units on a large scale - and kill anyone who gets too close.

Eve and Roarke must infiltrate an extraordinarily secretive government agency to expose the corruption at its core, before the virus spreads from one office to a corporation to the entire country.

I enjoyed this installment quite a bit - though there were times that I wanted to grab Eve and shaje her - I know she sees things in a black/white viewpoint because of being a cop but sometimes I think she expects Roarke to bend to her viewpoint too quickly. The narrator is great and I love how she can really bring the characters alive through her different "voices".

Enjoyable Installment

Great production and narration.

Storyline was perfect. Love all these characters. Never matters if you are reading out of sequence.

Love it.

This was a hard one, because of the secondary subject matter. Eve and Roarke fall out over it. Story revolves around Caro's daughter Reva being accused of killing her husband and his lover. When the HSO shows up on the scene because of Eve's investigation, things heat up . This one definitely captures your attention.

2nd read review 12/11/22 *****

Revenge vs Let it go

What a difficult book to get through emotionally. When Roarke's Admin calls asking for his help, he never thought he or Eve would discover information so damaging, so disgusting that it threatens to pull them apart. Our beloved couple struggle through out the book to come to some type of mutual accord on their opposing moral views. Reva Ewing, daughter of Roarke's Admin Caro, finds herself the main suspect in the double homicide of her cheating husband Blair Bissel and her best friend Felicity Kade. Mix together the Doomsday Group, HSO and Eve's horrendous past, and this makes for an explosive read.

gut wrenching

Peabody, Roarke, Feeney......noone sounds "right/the same as the 1st 17 books...sure hope it's a fluke! Quite off-putting.

What Happened to The Voices????
