Acerca de esta escucha
"This book is a generous work of genius. The Difference Map is now an essential component for anyone who is serious about doing work that matters, and Bernadette Jiwa is the bright new star to lead us there." (Seth Godin)
Marketing is not a department - it's the story of how you create difference for your customers.
We spent $500 billion globally on advertising in 2013. Every year we're spending more money, to interrupt more people, more often, with messages they don't care about and don't pay attention to. We've come to believe that the way to succeed is to have an advantage - by being different or better, more visible, or just plain louder.
What if, instead of finding ways to be one step ahead of your competition, you could build and market your business to give people a reason to choose you? What if you could completely reinvent a category or experience? What if you could stop trying to beat the competition, and become the competition?
Difference lifts the lid on how brands like Airbnb, Uber and Apple have succeeded by creating difference and gives you a new one-page method for reimagining your business and reinventing your marketing. It helps you to recognize opportunities that create value, to develop products and services that people want, and to matter to your customers.

We tend to have no shortage of ideas, but we struggle to tell the story of how they are going to be useful in the world and why they will matter to people. Marketing is the way we communicate how our ideas translate to value for people in a marketplace.

Historia
Now, for the first time, Seth Godin offers the core of his marketing wisdom in one compact, accessible, and timeless package. This Is Marketing shows you how to do work you're proud of, whether you're a tech start-up founder, a small-business owner, or part of a large corporation. Great marketers don't use consumers to solve their company's problem; they use marketing to solve other people's problems. Their tactics rely on empathy, connection, and emotional labor instead of attention-stealing ads. When done right, marketing seeks to make change in the world.

Not bad...
The material is good building on several well known business books that are current. It is well thought out and unique.
The book has a lot of sections and while I really like the author reading their own book, she doesn't pause between sections well (long enough), which makes it difficult to follow at times.

Which scene was your favorite?
The book is short and I enjoyed it but I could have done without listening to the examples at the end, skip that part and read the examples on her website.

This book woke me up to my own conclusions and warned me of care in making them. Marketing really is what difference we make people feel with everything we do as a business. Its brevity makes it even more impactful. Love it.

Waste of time
The book is a collection of brief examples of products successfully developed and marketed. Unfortunately the only “difference” she describes is that they had a vision of developing a niche, but gives no example of how to do “work that matters” and how to “change how people feel.” Her monotone with a British accident only makes it harder to listen.
