Overall enjoyable read but very upsetting scene that is reference multiple times. Just thought it would have been easier to read this story if I had known about it before hand.

Love the story line. I love the ending. The performance was pretty goo. I liked it.

Love overcoming fear

Characters, links between Emma and Belle. John. The courtship of John and Belle. I really like Belle’s self confidence and assertiveness.

Main female lead underwhelming

Arabella or Belle was the most annoying heroine I have ever encountered it was hard to route for her.

good story

bad narration. Rayner didn't know which character was speaking. or when the story telling began. her voice had inflection when it shouldn't and there was just no getting through it. I need to send it back. get the Kindle edition and leave this version alone.

Great Story….Bad Performer

The story is very good with captivating characters. The author draws the listener/reader in to the era and place. Wit and humor are definite adds. Unfortunately, the reader/performer is awful! The shrill and squeaky tone and terrible attempts at many characters makes it almost unbearable to listen to. I won’t bother with the 3rd book if it is the same performer. It was hard enough to get through the 1st 2.

I thought this was a very enjoyable read. I don't like to submit my opinions. It was just such a fun book. I hope you give a try.

Narration lacking

Would you try another book from Julia Quinn and/or Lucy Rayner?

I love Julia Quinn. This is one of her earliest books, and it shows. The dialogue and plot are just not as sharp as her later books.

Lucy Rayner has this ability to be really shrill and grating. Belle's voice was annoying and very distracting. There is also something a little off in the rhythm of the reading. The narration in between the dialogue felt a bit like it was a metered poem, rather than prose.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Lucy Rayner?

Rosalyn Landor... so smooth, excellent voice. She is a delight.
