BONES
I got my name from breaking the bones of a kid who picked on my younger brother, but that’s only where it started. My black heart craves violence, and being a King gives me plenty of opportunities.

When a friend comes to me for help because someone he loves is in danger, I’m happy to do so. After all, my friends are few, and they are my family.

Once I have her, I do what I have to in order to protect her. She thinks she’s in hell, but this is child’s play compared to what she would have faced.

She’s an innocent through and through and completely off-limits. But that’s not enough to stop me from doing what I do best—taking what’s mine.

MIA
I was born into a deadly Mafia family, yet I’m a nobody. To the world, I don’t exist.

Shuffled from Vegas as a child and sent to Italy for my protection, I became invisible. Until they found a use for me. Now I’m a card my father can play. A chance to cash in on the family name to the highest bidder.

Taken from my home, I’m sold to a King. His hard blue eyes take no prisoners. He’s just another pretty face to hide the evil and in no way my savior.

Now I know what hell looks like because I’m living it. But just when I think I can finally be free, it all comes crashing down, and the King I thought would end me is the only one who can save me.

All I wanted was to be somebody, but now I wish I’d stayed the nobody.

So if you listen to the LORDS series and then go back to listen to this series there are serious and obvious differences in the storytelling, heat level, and length of the book. While the duet narration is fabulous and the interactions between the MMC and FMC are really well done, this was not really the story I was hoping for for Mia. It just seemed a bit derived to be threat-sensuality-threat and yet the sensuality is way more tepid kind of like when you have hot water on in the tap and it comes out steaming but then suddenly runs out and turns lukewarm,
I honestly almost dnfed it for the fact that Mia, knowing she's targeted, in danger, being watched, and lived a life in hiding because of her father, repeatedly walks into dangerous situations. The ending arc literally made me want to throw my earbuds into my pool. Why I am giving it 3 stars instead of less--the intensity of the danger arc is well crafted and keeps the listener engaged wanting to know who is behind everything and why. I also needed to see Bones get more and more obsessed with Mia. I also enjoy the extended cast of characters.
The duet narration really makes this story pop and it is easy to slip into the plot listening to the two mains interact. I found the MMC's desire to keep her safe realistic-even though she wanted to be a I'll Show You I Can Take Care of Myself- FMC he never stops trying to be sure she's going to be protected.
The ending was a bit far fetched for me, though. Ugh on the rabbit ears. Ugh on Bones not being there.
Just Ugh for me because I'm more of a MMC takes down the baddie because he wants to get revenge or get his woman back or because he needs to get swift retribution.
For fans of this author, I think it is an enjoyable listen. The narration is truly what kept me going. If I had been reading it, I think I'd have stopped early on in the story.
There are triggers in this book for readers to consider. They didn't bother me because it seemed like Mia had plot armor so she was able to overcome a lot of what happened to her very quickly.

I give this book & whole series a 4.75 stars only because I want to know more!! Bones is the epitome of the perfect man in my eyes! I need to know about him & Mia's wedding, April & Grave's same for Luca & Haven's baby. Like I need more 😉 Great story I love me strong dominant man yet soft and that is Bones 🥰 I love how raw & honest he is with Mia when she asks him questions vs sugar coating or lying. Now I have no idea what to read.......

This man is perfection!!

Oh gosh. Note I’m not sure which book is my favorite. Cross or Bones! I think Bones has now taken first place. I love how his character really developed here. He’s always been domineering. But here he also shows a softer side I think. And Grave and April’s storyline continues. And Mia! I’m just love her. She’s been so sheltered but is trying so hard to become her own person. I just loved this book. I’m also kind of sad the series is over. What about Nite? I totally see him with Jasmin in the future. Lol

The male narrator?? YUM!
