Enjoyable New Series

This series is the spin off to Miranda James' Cats in the Stacks Mysteries and features Miss An'gel and Miss Dickce Ducote. The sisters are pet sitting Charlie Harris' maine coon cat, Diesel, and get themselves involved in an adventure. When their former sorority sister, Rosabelle Sultan, turns up on their door step, claiming that her family is trying to kill her they don't really believe her. After all Rosabelle loves drama! However when someone else falls victim to a trap set for Rosabelle it really looks like Rosabelle's family mean her harm. With the Sultan family residing at their house too, An'gel and Dickce must try to solve the mystery before they become the next victim.

I just adore Diesel and the Cats in the Stacks Mysteries. This spin off was great. While I did miss Charlie Harris, I did like this story. An'gel and Dickce are such a hoot, and with their southern manners they tend to keep their snarky comments to themselves. That doesn't mean they don't think them. Rosabelle and her family are pretty uncouth and it was interesting watching them all clash with each other!

This was my first time listening to a Miranda James novel. I've previously read all the others. However having said that I enjoyed Jorgena Marie's narration. I liked the southern accents she used and I would definitely listen to another book in this series, with her narration.

Bless Her Dead Little Heart was a fun debut in this series. If you enjoy the Cats in the Stacks mysteries I thoroughly recommend picking this one up. If you are new to Miranda James give this one a try and I guarantee you that you will be racing out to buy her other series too!

Good story, but distracting performance

The change in pronunciation of the deputy's name from the original series became a distraction.

So-So, Comparatively

I loved the other series where Diesel played a prominent part and our nosy librarian/detective was ever solving mysteries. So, I thought I would try this series out as some of the same characters are in it. The narrator sounded like a teenager on the cusp of becoming a woman. Spoiled the story in many parts for me. Then there were just too many bodies, and implausible twists. I am so disappointed! I thought it would be better than this. No more in this series for me.

I could not put this story down.

I was hooked from beginning. Loved the way it was connected to Stacks in the Rack series by M. James.

Good book

Liked the book. Narrative was good. Loved the impressions. The sisters were a hoot. I'm glad more authors are using Maine Coon cats in their books. They are so cool.

Classic cute mystery

Great mystery for the lover of original mystery's like Agatha Christie, Clue, Columbo, Matlock, Mrs Columbo. The two main characters are very likeable

it needs a better narrator...

The story could be more captivating if the narrator from the prior series could give these characters their unique characteristics. I loved Charles and Diesel stories and I loved the narrator as well. I feel at times lost by the current narrator...in addition to the annoying wrong pronunciation of the names.

Could have been better

The premise is good. Two elderly ladies and their quirky pets solving mysteries. However, it was difficult for me to get into the story. The majority of the characters were so unlikable that I found I could care less what happened to them, which made it difficult to continue reading. Worst of all, the mystery was solved offscreen and the two main characters were given a brief summary of it. Part of the fun of reading a mystery is to “be there” for the big reveal. I did enjoy some of the characters and some of the dialogue provided laughs. The mystery itself was okay. The pacing was very slow with all the action happening in the last few pages. I liked the two main characters, the southern setting, and some of the local characters that came in and out of the story. I enjoy this genre and do plan to read the next book in the series in hopes it is an improvement on this book.

In my opinion

Too many loose ends at the abrupt end. Did the author get tired of writing? Otherwise well written.
