Resumen del Editor

From USA Today best-selling author Emily McIntire comes the fourth and final interconnected standalone in the Sugarlake series.

Lily Adams ran away and never looked back. She got herself clean and lives a sober life, working hard to give her son a good home in a place where they’ll be safe.

It’s been years since she left Sugarlake, and the last thing she’d expect is her brother sending someone to find her.

Mason Wells is the best private investigator in Tennessee. Tasked with the mission of hunting down Lily Adams, he knows he’s the perfect man for the job. At least he thought he was, until he actually finds her.

Immediately, Mason feels a pull. He needs to know the perky, dark-haired woman and the son she loves more than the world.

Before he can stop himself, he’s inserted himself into their lives, fake name and all, and even though he tells himself it’s temporary, every day he spends with Lily, the weight of his secrets push down on him more.

When Mason’s past catches up to him, putting Lily and her son’s life in danger, he knows he has to do something major to keep them safe.

Even if it means breaking both their hearts and losing them for good.

*Beneath the Surface is the fourth interconnected stand-alone in The Sugarlake series. It contains mature and graphic content. Listener discretion is advised. Full list of TW can be found on author's website.*

Fantastic Story & Narration🎧 Riveting & Intense!

Emily McIntire continues to wow me with another amazing romance novel set in her “Sugarlake” series, a series of interconnected standalone novels. Each book features different lead characters and can be enjoyed in any order, but I think it is best to read or listen to the first book, “Beneath the Stars”, before this one. The lead character, Lily, was a secondary/support character in that book, Chase, her brother, and Alina, her best friend’s story. While the story includes everything you need to know in the descriptive details, knowing their back story is beneficial and adds more depth to this multi-layers story. Lily was not the troubled Adams kid, that was her brother so no one noticed when she went off the deep end before disappearing without a trace, she has been missing for several years and Chase never gave up on her, even hired a private investigator to find her. That private investigator, Mason, found her but he was so entranced by her he wanted to find out more about her and whether she wanted to be found, he wanted to make sure Chase had good intentions and that he was not the reason she left Sugarlake. I loved the mystery behind Chase and who he was, and then who he turned out to be. These two characters are opposites and grew up in circumstances that were quite different, yet neither one’s circumstances were good and it left them broken in their own way. I admired Lily’s strength and determination to pick herself up and better herself if not for her, but for Chase. I also admired Mason for his cunningness and ability to get what he wanted, not just revenge, but to see justice served. This wonderfully plotted story captivates your attention and tugs on your heartstrings the entire time, there is plenty of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions, some heart-rending and gut-wrenching moments, and a romance to be remembered, not your typical romance but one just as special. Emily McIntire, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride. It was great to catch up with the characters from the previous books, too.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Emily McIntire cast the perfect narrators to bring her characters and story to life. Blake Lockheart and Cecily Foster are superbly talented narrators and versatile voice artists. They had a complete understanding of the characters they portrayed, gave each a voice that fit their character’s persona to a tee, sounding believable and just as I pictured the characters to sound. Blake Lockheart played Mason’s role with perfection, grasped his gruffness and alpha-tude, Cecily Foster’s Lily was spot on, both grasped all sides of their character’s personality and were great performing the roles of all the secondary characters too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the character’s emotions and projected them into their performance and had you feeling every single one. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to and their narration enhances an already amazing story to another level. Thank you for another exceptional listen.

Emily McIntire sure knows how to write to make your heart get involved!!

I have loved this series of books! Chase’s story, Jax’s story…. They were so easy to read, tug your heart strings, love how they progressed stories for me. I’ve been looking forward to listening to Lily’s story! I was not disappointed! Lily ran for her own reasons and has been hiding from her family… who’ve tried to find her and failed. Alex/Mason is the PI that Chase hires to find her after many years, because he’s know as the best.

Alex/Mason ran too… many years ago, from a family who didn’t want him to be who he was. A family who’s patriarch has many secrets. They come for him after he finds and befriends Lily, and he has to stop them once and for all.

This was excellent! Well written, heart wrenching hung in places, makes you cheer in places, and steam with anger in others…. And it will hold your attention from beginning to end!! Emily McIntire, I am so happy I was introduced y to o your work!!! More please!!!

Hidden Identity Romance

Beneath the Surface by Emily McIntire is a hidden identity romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Blake Lockheart and Cecily Foster. This is the fourth book in the Sugarlake series and can be read as a standalone. However, the stories are interconnected so I would highly recommend reading them in order.

I love Emily's books. She does an amazing job pulling me into the story. I loved the relationship that bloomed between Lily and Mason. I really enjoyed getting both of their points of view throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

Blake and Cecily did an amazing job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

This audiobook made me feel so much! ❤

I have been wanting to pick up this fourth installment ever since i found out about it! Having read / listened to the two previous installments, i couldn't wait to get into this one! I started listening to it as soon as i could and got right back to Sugarlake! I really enjoyed this listen!

I've listened to Blake Lockheart's narration before, but this was my first time listening to Cecily Foster! These two and their narration had me hooked! I loved the way their voices pulled me in, the way they had me feeling so dang much, and what both of them brought to the story as Mason and Lily!

Lily and Mason's journey had me glued to my earbuds! As these two brought into each other's lives, can they face the truths, their hearts, and everything thrown their way? I couldn't wait to find out!

There was such a realness to these two characters and their story that truly got to me. All throughout this listen i went through so many emotions and i loved how this audiobook brought that out of me. Lily was such a strong character! Mason had me falling for him! I was so glad that i got to dig deeper with them. I didn't know what all to expect and i so enjoyed that as well!

I was so happy to be back in Sugarlake!

With Beneath the Surface, Ms.McIntire has created such a great story that brought all kinds of feels! From the story and it's characters to the Blake and Cecily's narration, this was such an awesome listen that got to my heart! I can't wait to pick up more from this author! So looking forward to listening to more of Blake's and Cecily's narration in the near future as well!

Great ending to a phenomenal series

For those who have been waiting for Lily's story...... ITS HERE!!! Now I do have to say that there were some things about Lily that still made me super angry..... but honestly, it wasn't anything that doesn't scream addict. And yes... I know she had a rough time before she got to Sugarlake.... but if you read Beneath the Stars then you have an idea of how she behaved as a teenager and it wasn't cute. Now... Mason was BEYOND swoony! Overall this was a fantastic way to wrap up the series! I absolutely loved how the epilogues have you a look at not just what Mason and Lily were up to, but what the rest of the gang was doing also! And the narration was pretty good with this. I didn't lose interest or feel the need to speed up the the audio!

Emotional

This is the first series I've read/listened to by Emily McIntire. I loved it. This was such an emotional read. Heavier than the others. I was tense and seating on the edge of my seat through most of the book. My heart was pounding. I didn't want to pause the audio. I cried. My heart broke for both Mason and Lily. Each having so much to work through. This was steamy, in a rough way. A great HEA. Even though this is a great standalone, it is so much better as a series.

Blake Lockheart and Cecily Foster are great narrators. I love Lockheart's laugh. Their performance was full of emotion. The audiobook rolled like a movie in my head. Perfection.
