You can’t break a girl who already clawed her way out of the crypt.

I came to the House of Night broken, barely breathing, barely me.

Now I’m waiting in the crypts for the events that will change everything.

First, The Baron Hunt.

And, second, my arranged marriage to the King.

I spent my youth being groomed under the watchful eye of my uncle, preparing for the day I united our families. My uncle wants to be tied to Royalty. The Baron King? He wants more than a bride.

He wants secrets.

I know first hand that something is deeply wrong beneath the foundation of Forsyth, beneath the shiny rituals and punishing ceremonies. Neither have done anything to find the missing girls.

The King wants loyalty.
Damon wants control, exerting it with his needles and pins
Hunter stands in the shadows, quietly waiting and watching.

They all want something from me: My obedience. My purity. My silence.

I’m willing to give them whatever they want, be whatever they want, Baroness, wife, or both as long as death never touches me again.

Barons of Decay is the first book in the Barons series and book 10 overall in the contemporary, dark, reverse harem, traumatic romance world of the Royals of Forsyth U. Please refer to the foreword for all content information and details.

I am only 9 chapters in and something feels different in the writing. I have listened to all the other Books of this series multiple times. This has a very different feel to it. I am so far not a huge fan. I am a fan of the male narrator, but the woman's voice is extremely whiny and annoying to me. All the other voices ( Lady, Duchess, and Princess) all had strong powerful women voices behind them, this one is far from it. I will continue to listen to it, I will adjust the rating if need be when I'm done.

meh.

The lead female character's voice was cringe to me. Made her sound like a little girl.

Good story, not a fan of voice

I read Barons of Decay when it was first released and now, a few months later, listened to the Audible version. I must say that I think I enjoyed the audiobook more. The voice actors really brought the characters and the story to life. I thought the female narrator did an excellent job at expressing the FMC's fragility and state of mind. I am on the edge of my seat now waiting for the next installment and there are many mysteries to be solve. If you're a fan of this series, I don't think this will disappoint. The other 3 trilogies followed a path where all three men in the fraternity already knew each other and had a bond. I appreciate this book because it if different- no one in the harem knows each other at first. It made for a refreshing reset.

Brings the book to life. Excellent!

This book is vastly different from all the other books in the Royals of Forsyth Univ series. Not sure why this one was so different it's almost like your reading a different series. It was a bit too dark with no university storyline in it, at least for the first book of three (assuming there will be three total). It seemed the author wants to check all the boxes with diverse characters and this FMC is unhinged similar to Remi but as the main character it makes you feel uncomfortable as you follow her through the book. While I understand people suffer from trauma and mental health I just wanted a lighter book I could enjoy. I couldn't relate to her whatsoever aside from some moments you feel for her I found her unlikable. Another reason I think I disliked the FMC so much was because of the female narrator. She made this character so much more annoying with her tone and acting. I really hope they change narrators for next two books, otherwise I dont think I could listen to her narrate again. I thought the male narrator did an excellent job and I was thankful when he would narrator to give me a break from listening to her. I think checking all the boxes of kinks and what hasn't been done shifted the focus from a good storyline with the frat theme and having a good fantasy why choose to a more disturbing book with strange characters. I also thought the MMC's in this book seemed nicer than the males in all the other books (less of a bully romance) which made them all the more dislikable because of the extreme difference in being caring one minute and then abusing the FMC the next. I just dont know about this one. I know these books are a bit more unforgiving in terms of lack of consent and abuse but this one was overboard for me. I figured the barrons books would be darkers but not sure if I liked the direction. I can only hope there is loads of groveling and that the FMC stabilizes mentally and makes peace with her trauma in the books to come.

What happened

I love ROFU, but it seems as though that love ended with the princes. The FMC's baby talk annoys me. If that was just her natural voice I could accept it, but it's intentional and just fake. Characters lack depth, no spice, boring story. My ears bled through this whole book and I was anxious for it to be over. I'm not looking forward to this series anymore. So disappointed.
