Resumen del Editor

Everyone knows Gwendolyn and Hamilton are enemies. What happens when the whole school finds out their secret?

Gwendolyn Adams has been canceled.

The Preston Prep Devils made that clear after the incident that forced my sister Skylar to leave our academy. They wanted me to leave, too, but I refused. I’m sticking around to make sure they follow through on the deal the snobby, elite crew of jocks made with the administration.

The arrangement is simple. No one ever speaks about what happened to Skylar again, and no one gets punished.

But that's not exactly true, is it? I still get punished, each and every day that I walk down the halls. No one speaks to me. No one looks at me. No one even admits I exist.

It doesn’t matter. I know what they did. And I know who’s in charge - Hamilton Bates.

Handsome, smart, and ridiculously privileged. He’s the lead devil, and my hatred for him is all in the details.

All it takes is one slip, one heated argument, one mistake, and everything gets even more complicated.

We get complicated.

Is this love? Or, has the devil found a new plaything?

Devil May Care is the gripping, angsty, enemies-to-lovers, bully romance by USA Today best-selling author Angel Lawson you’ve been waiting for!

Love the angst, steam and romance

This is my favorite audio book of 2020 so far. The narrator does a great job doing the male and female voices. I loved that this is a character driven story and the emotions, angst, and romance all ring true! The story is extremely well written and the characters and world-building are just wonderful. I read the book first and then bought it on Audible, too, which I rarely do. I'll be the first in line to buy anything these 2 authors write.

I love this book!

I have read this book twice now and listened to it once. I love the characters and storyline. The background of the audio was odd, like it was done in a large empty room or domething. Despite thst the narrator did a good job.

Lovely moments in this one

The bully romance genre is painful. And yet—I keep reading them. I really like this writing duo (the lords/dukes series they penned—brilliant and hot). I know a lot about the American coming of age high school trope (especially female protagonists), and —yes—it involves romance. Because—well, high school is the time for such great drama and possibility. And sex. And insecurity. And ecstasy. And grand declarations. And feelings of bottomless loss. And the budding awareness of power dynamics as they are stacked by economic class, education, and gender.

It’s not surprising that these stories are populated by rich kids, though the problems of the privileged are always a bit hard to stomach. I think even the characters know this; certainly, the authors do. It’s ok to suspend disbelief and experience the fury and rewards of lives on the precipice of becoming. This book does a great job of creating a stage for that.

Having said all of that, I must admit two things: one, chapter 21 brought me to actual tears (what? This wizened, hardened heart??). A lovely portrait of falling in love without being interrupted by the banal convention that demands virginity from its heroines. HOORAY. Co-captains! I’m all for it. I can’t say that I didn’t skip whole chapters —especially near the end—because I just don’t need to go through the emotional torture—and—balm these stories ultimately offer.

This story offered some beauty about the human condition, despite the fact that it is packaged in a ridiculous prep school with a ridiculous mascot among the ridiculously wealthy. I don’t care! It’s good.

Loved it

I stumbled across this and am so glad I did. Don’t rule it out as it’s only a single narrator. She does great.

perfect

Gwendolyn and Hamilton are enemies and have been for a while. But after an incident with Gwendolyn sister they are mortal enemies. Things change after an heat argument. Things get hot and dangerous as no one can find out their secrets. Listening to this book was amazing and I loved how both grew within their roles. I cant wait to read more from this author.

devil is right

I admit I hated Hamilton at the beginning and wanted to smack Gwen upside the head. But as the story progresses I got to know them both and started to like them more. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read and listen to the others in this series.

Great listen. Well worth it!

This is a great book! I really loved Hamilton's character development, and how he was able to learn and grow throughout the book. All books by these two authors are awesome. I can't wait for more audiobooks from them! The narrator does a really good job even though it's a single narrator. I actually really like her guy voices!

Slow going

Hamilton Bates and Gwendolyn Adams, worst couple names ever, are high school enemies who were once friends in grade school. The two now attend boarding school and have an ongoing feud based on socioeconomic status, cultural beliefs and competition. Both top swimmers, Bates and Adams spend an inordinate amount of time together despite him being a social titan and her being an antisocial outcast. Because of the overlap, they both think they know the other well enough to judge. So when Adams’s sister gets too sexually ambitious at a Devil’s party, the society Bates leads, she automatically assumes he is to blame. It is through the fall out and punishment from the party that the couple are pushed together more frequently, stoking their previously banked passions.

There’s no much new to this iteration of the enemies to lovers trope. I actually thought it moved too slowly. I skipped a couple of chapters, fell asleep and even increased the speed of much of the book. Less angst and more levity could have lessened the drag caused by poor pacing, but there is too little of it. Actually, my favorite moments in the story are those that include Gwendolyn’s brother Micha. He is the most endearing and entertaining character.

“Do you have any idea how much bad bitch energy it takes to pull off some of the outfits I wear?”

The quote where he self-professes his awesomeness is a prime example of why his voice is both fresh and refreshing in a trope that can become overtly cookie cutter in execution. But based on their ability to create such a phenomenal voice speaks volumes of what the authors may have in store for future stories.

Worth the credit.....

3.5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️

When I read the blurb I was all over it, who doesn’t love a enemies-to-lovers book! Even though this was my first time reading Angel Lawson and Samantha Rue books. I will say I liked the easy flow of the storyline and I LOVED the fact that their FMC had a backbone and she had know problem sticking up for herself. Definitely a plus for me! I gave this a 3.5 stars just because I feel some parts were a little dragged out and parts I think would’ve been good to read about weren’t in the story. Like all the horrible things Hamilton did to Gwendolyn.
Which in my opinion would’ve been more of a bully romance.

Anyhow, The story automatically starts out with you knowing that Hamilton and Gwendolyn seriously hate each other to the point if looks could kill they’d be died.

Throughout the book Hamilton and Gwen argue back-and-forth, until one heated argument turns into something more that it shocks both of them. They both agree that it won’t happen again nor will they tell anyone, it’s there little secret, but that doesn’t seem to happened because every time they argue it’s like a hot switch that can be turned off. With time they realize that being together they both are helping each other over come things they have issues with. I really liked how both Authors showed character growth in Hamilton.
There’s drama, angst and humor in this story which I found kept the book interesting. The chemistry between both characters was pretty hot. Even though I would have enjoyed it more if there was more dialogue during the sex scenes.

Overall the book is worth reading and I did find it enjoyable...

Audiobook review: This was my first time listening to Lula Larkin and she definitely deserves 4 stars.
