London Society takes their problems to Sherlock Holmes. Everyone else goes to Arrowood

South London, 1896. William Arrowood, Victorian London’s less salubrious private detective, is paid a visit by Captain Moon, the owner of a pleasure steamer moored on the Thames. He complains that someone has been damaging his boat, putting his business in jeopardy.

Arrowood and his trusty sidekick Barnett suspect professional jealousy, but when a shocking discovery is pulled from the river, it seems like even fouler play is afoot.

It’s up to Arrowood and Barnett to solve the case, before any more corpses end up in the watery depths . . .

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Crackles with energy and wit." (The Times)

"A good belting [listen]...a gripping historical crime novel...book clubs will love it especially fans of C J Sansom." (NB Magazine)

"Mick Finlay, the new master of gritty, gruesome and gripping historical crime fiction … Brimming with dark humour, fast-paced action, intriguing twists and turns, and a cast of characters that could well have been conjured up by the late, great Mr Dickens, this is a top-class series that grows in stature with every new book." (Lancashire Evening Post)

A Grisly and Engaging Victorian Crime Thriller

This third book in the Arrowood series certainly kept me listening. The grit and grime, the smells and gore of Victorian England are so detailed that I wanted to shower after each chapter. The author knows his history and puts it on the page with such clever, sometimes funny, graphic descriptions. The Sherlock Holmes references are also funny and these bits provide some needed comic relief. The story is a page-turner as the events and actions are unpredictable, Set against this dark setting is the contrast of the decent humanity of Arrowood and Barnett, his side-kick. I just love those guys, and I hope the series continues. Malk Williams does a fantastic job. Best not to listen while you eat your lunch though,

I like this series, but this was sooooo gross for no reason!!!!

The storylines in this series are solid and interesting.

But each book gets more and more gross. Needlessly gross. Having a character get rat intestines in their mouth (and described it in disgusting levels of detail) adds nothing to the plot. It was totally irrelevant to the plot and seemed to be there just for the sake of being disgusting.

There were multiple instances of disgusting details added for no reason that I can see but shock value.

If there is another book in this series I will give it a try. But if it is needlessly disgusting I will return it and not read any more.

Stay away if you have a weak stomach!!!!!!!!

Just to disgusting for me

This was the third and will be the absolute last one I will read from this author. I read a lot of crime fiction and can handle the gore and grime as it is usually a necessary part of the story and sets the stage, so to speak. However, it seemed to me that the author of this book was just trying to disgust his readers with no purpose in mind. To much time was spent on describing nastiness. It's a unnessasary and unpleasant distraction from the story and the mystery. It's just weird.

A little hard core but good

Descriptions get a little too disgusting in this book for my taste, one time I almost gagged...but definitely feels real and the story was good. I read the other books in the series and am looking forward to the next one.
