Monica is a devoted daughter, serious student, and gifted writer. Everyone who hears her passionate songs believes she has talent, but nobody knows the true story. Inside, Monica is a mess, and every day is harder and harder to endure.

In this insightful novel about mental illness and its many manifestations, Monica serves as the titular Anxiety Girl. She has received a diagnosis of anxiety and depression from her doctor, but just knowing this isn’t enough.

Monica loses all motivation once she graduates from college. Despite support from her parents, boyfriend, and best friend, Monica can’t find meaning in anything. She spends every night lying awake, worrying about her future. Her straight-talking sister, Andrea, tells her she needs a job, but Monica doesn’t think it would help.

Then, a mysterious fortune cookie directs Monica to take a job at a local restaurant. In this bustling place full of friendly people, Monica finally starts to understand and confront her anxiety. But as she opens up to the possibilities of the universe, Monica must still decide what she wants to do with her life and whom she wants to share it with.

I feel this book would best suit young adults dealing with anxiety and/or depression. This book would also do well for college students. I wouldn't highly recommend it to someone who deals with this on top of Personality Disorders or bipolar, etc. However, if you're experiencing anxiety in your life for the first time or were just diagnosed, this would be a great read for you. I did enjoy hearing Monica's story. it's always nice to know we are not alone.

pretty good
