I purchased this solely because Jason Clarke is an insta-buy for me. he, as always, didn't disappoint. Rose Diorio did a fantastic job with her performances as well. narration perfection.

I went in blind and wasn't expecting this story at all. when one says "dark," they really should say, darker than dark, on this one. it was difficult to read at times due to the SA. I felt the story evolved to a good end and kept me riveted to see how it would play out. I would have given this 5 stars, but I felt a strong dislike to the constant emphasis throughout the book regarding Rainy's looks, body, and breasts. we got it loud and clear the first 20x already, lol.

I still would recommend this book, but do heed the ⚠️

I know this book has been out for a while, but it came across as a suggestion since I'm a HUGE Jason Clarke fan. And once again, he did not disappoint. But even better, neither did any of the other elements of the book. The story line kept you listening until the plot line twist (poor Justin) and Ms. Dioro was fantastic as the female narrator. Definitely worth the credit!

I liked the relationship that Allison and Cory ended up reaching. I thought the suspense brought on by her exboyfriend, Drew, caused a bit of an extreme reaction from her. And I felt like a lot of the book was spend describing little details of rooms or outfits and less time developing characters or explaining connections. I listened to the audiobook which was narrated by Stacy Hinkle, who was underwhelming.

While there are a TON of sexual situations in this book I would not classify it as a 🌶️ romance AT ALL.
However, it IS a gripping ,tale that takes a winding convoluted path. It is well paced, well written, unique, and engaging.

The Five is told interview style as Summer sits down with psychologist, Justin Redding, and shares her incomprehensible past. This is a slow burn, gut wrenching dark romance with a jaw dropping ending.

My thoughts:
Check Triggers Warnings! This is the darkest book I have ever read. It is SA from start to finish.
I rated this book 4 stars. The Five is unlike anything I’ve read; I could not put this book down.

This book left me staring at the wall when I finished and asking myself WTF did I just read. THIS BOOK IS WILD!

Told interview style, I was pulled into this story immediately. I, like Justin, had to find out what the five marks on Rainey’s arm meant. Rainey has a dark story to tell and wants to start from the beginning.

This book is so dark and twisted; there is so much abuse and manipulation within these pages. One minute I felt bad her Rainey, the other I thought she was crazy, the next I was looking forward to her getting her HEA. Nothing, and I mean nothing, prepared me for the ending of this book.

Rose Dioro and Jason Clarke were incredible and their voices fit these characters so well. I could not stop listening.

I really did love this book. It was heartbreaking and intriguing and outright sad.

Rainy details through years of abuse, drugs, bad life choices, trauma and loss to a psychologist assigned to assess her in a murder investigation.

This books is a lot of things... but not a love story. I’m not mad about it, I was sucked in from the get-go and couldn’t stop listening. I just wish it had been categorized better.

Narration is, of course, spot on.
