This wasn’t a terrible listen, but I must admit that the female character was quite annoying. She wasn’t at all submissive to Rook, and I detest how she fought most of the time while secretly wanting him all along. I would have preferred her character if she hadn’t been so easily flustered and had been more honest about her feelings.

Rook & Rebel – 2.5⭐️ 2🌶️

Rook and Rebel had all the ingredients I usually love — morally grey/black motorcycle club vibes, obsessive energy, tension — but it just didn’t hit the way I wanted it to.

It wasn’t bad. I didn’t hate it. I finished it. But I’ve definitely read darker MC romances that executed this dynamic better.

Regan as an FMC didn’t feel as strong as the story needed her to be. She came off a little whiny at times, and in a world that gritty, I wanted her to feel sharper — stronger — more grounded. Especially opposite a character like Rook.

And Rook… I love a morally grey man. I love obsessive. I even love a little unhinged. But instead of giving dangerous and magnetic, he sometimes leaned immature and borderline annoying. Not in a fun “cute stalker romance” way — more in a way that pulled me out of the immersion. I wanted depth behind the darkness, and it just didn’t fully land for me.

At times the story felt rushed, like major moments didn’t get the emotional weight they needed. It almost felt like the author wanted to include a little bit of everything — angst, suspense, heat, drama — but instead of blending smoothly, it made the story feel eclectic in a messy way.

That said, it wasn’t unreadable. There were parts I enjoyed. The premise had potential. It just didn’t fully deliver on the intensity and cohesion I was hoping for.

If you’re newer to MC romance, you might enjoy this more than I did. But if you’ve read a lot in this subgenre, you may find yourself wanting just a little more.

can you change it where its the male voice just speaking the female voice spoke so fast I had to turn the speed down a lot to make her sound normal

I ended up returning the audiobook because I couldn't stand the female narrator. I loved the book though. I think if I continued with the audiobook I wouldn't have liked the FMC as much. The male narrator was good and I did preview it but it only played the male narrator. I learned my lesson.
