A full-length stand-alone book.

She's his captive. He's her captor.

Their relationship is a volatile push and pull. He plays the villain, and she plays the victim; each play their roles to a tee. One buries the past to forget, the other fights to remind the other how they began.

She is desperate to escape. He is desperate to keep her. One thing is clear: Only one will be left standing at the end.

The relationship in this book is twisted and dark, and the heroine seems addicted to it and craves more. Did he save her or use her??? I'm ambivalent. I felt compelled to keep listening and trying to figure out more details. Not for the faint of heart or weak of stomach. This book will affect you one way ir the other. You choose. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a good job.

I was hesitant at first but after the first few chapters I was completely addicted, since I have to listen to it on my headset I now have two charging one for when the other dies. This is a wonderful story with a bit of kink and the characters are very well built. it has just enough adult mixed with a great storyline. I love how it is by character, timeline and in what order. well done

Solid story, keeps you reading

She was yanked out of her life and placed in the center of his. He lived in criminal world. She knew she couldn’t escape the hold he had on her. He took away her freedom and surrounded her with ruthless criminals.

They lived on the Gulf Islands isolated from civilization. Living in the most luxurious hotel on the island. She spent two years locked inside this hotel.

She’s the perfect captive and he’s the perfect captor. It’s a complicated situation. All she wanted was for someone to care for her. All he wanted was to be accepted.

Overall:
Was it hate or was it love? It was definitely a push n’ pull kind of situation. In some ways it read like a kidnapping turned fairy-tale except for the contradicting words against Nixon.
It’s a sexually driven story with explicit sex scenes and vulgar language. For mature adults only. They have a weird dynamic that’s confusing to understand. They played games with her pretending not to care and him caring too much. It was an emotional rollercoaster of emotions. At times it was so intense and angry I was tense and stressed by the volatile nature of behavior.
RJ expressed the violence, anger, and feelings extremely well. This was a heavy read for me. The relationship between Vixen and Nixon was troubling and toxic. I was entertained by this book. Although by no means did I ever consider Nixon book boyfriend material. It certainly was an original piece of work that had me questioning Vixen’s actions on numerous occasions.
The part of the story that didn’t vibe well for me was the biker gang link. This was a stretch in the story that confused me. Up until this part I was completely onboard.

Narrator:
Carol Sheen was the solo female performer in Captive. I’m not familiar with her work as a narrator. She did have a pleasant sounding voice. Although, her performance sounded more like a read than a performance. Her voice held a monotone sound to it with only a few pitch changes.
The performance of the male characters held minimal tone of what a guy would sound like. It’s not what I would expect Nixon’s character to sound like. He was ruthless, powerful, and sexy. That didn’t resonate with Carol’s performance.
This was an unabridged audiobook copy. It was easy to follow with my ebook copy.
Although, instead of enhancing my prior reading experience, listening to this audiobook altered my viewpoint of the story. The narrator’s characterizations took away from my experience. I wasn’t pulled in like I was when I read it.

This was a new genre for me but I wanted to try it. it was a little slow going and the narrator started out sounding like a machine but after a few chapters it got better. Their "game" was weird but to each their own and with her situation you don't wonder why she couldn't say she loved him. Can you say munchousen syndrome? That was my first thought. Then people ask, what is normal? when she tried to have a "relationship" with someone else. That's all she knew for so many years it's hard to change. It's like an addict, getting back into the life, she knew how to find it. And the emotions were all over the place, it was crazy. However, I'm glad I stuck with this book to the end.

new genre for me
