Dear Reader, Thank you for taking the time out to read this. The author comes from a long line of story tellers and sailors. His father was career Coast Guard and while he himself was in the Navy. Mr. Merritt's Grandfather was a gunners mate who ended up shelling the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. His love of books began when his father was stationed as a lighthouse keeper in New England. Despite what you may see on the news and read about on the internet the life of a lighthouse keepers son isn't all glamour and parties. There's a lot of times when there really isn't much to do besides wonder if the fog horn has finally made you deaf. You can also occasionally watch your dad pull fishing lures out of different parts of peoples bodies. (You'd be amazed!) He read. He read a lot. There was a 'reading caterpillar' around the room at the school where every time a child read a book they put the child's name on a piece of colored paper and hung it up. The teacher had to give Mr. Merritt two colors because he was making the caterpillar solid blue. He devoured CS Lewis before moving on to Tolkien. Reading has continued to be a big part of his life. He's since moved into Alternative Realities by guys like Stirling and his guilty pleasure is Zombie novels. He can't seem to get enough of them! The thing about them is the story you get to hear about the protagonist. In a world where humanity crumbles around them these flawed heroes have to stand up and try to make their way. They go from struggling to pay the phone bill to struggling to stay alive. It's inspiring to see the different ways this molds them as people. The stories speak at a very primal level.
