Brad is the founder and president of Spencer, Shenk, Capers, and Associates (SSCA) and the #1 International Bestselling author of The Straight-Line. SSCA is a unique consulting firm specializing in helping businesses grow and making their leadership flourish. Their expertise in business strategy compounded by the unusual research-based approach and models has led to the firm’s success for over 35 years. Brad started his career when he was recruited to the Dow Leadership Center associated with Hillsdale College in Michigan following his graduation with a degree in Political Science. This fortuitous position changed the vector of his career and he decided to devote his life to the Applied Behavioral Sciences and helping organizations and people grow their leadership competence. It was here he was first exposed to the potency of many of the concepts in which this book is grounded. After a brief stop in the corporate training group of Bank of America, he accepted a position with the Training and OD group at Mattel Corp. in Los Angeles. It was here he met Dr. David McClelland of Harvard who has influenced his work and practices heavily. While at Mattel, he was encouraged to expand his business knowledge and was awarded an MBA from Pepperdine University in 1976. Following completion of this program, he started studies under Dr. Hedges Capers and in 1984 was awarded his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from International College. The combination is unusual and has led the firms to focus on leadership stemming from the business imperatives and the daunting personal demons each leader faces. He is noted for his uncanny ability to simplify extremely complex topics, translating them into actions to help his clients meet their goals. Brad has given numerous addresses, held many board positions and been a member of many professional organizations. His firm has gained a reputation for its impactful research-based executive development workshops that have been adopted by numerous corporations as the cornerstone of their high potential development programs. His wife Connie is a saint and they live in Rolling Hills Estates, Ca. when he is not on an airplane to client’s offices around the world. They have one son, Scott, who is a testament to the fact that athletic prowess is not genetic and has clearly blown by his father by any metric used. Brad’s golfing companions will attest to the fact that he is living proof that memorizing a book on how to play golf does not translate into being a golfer. One day he promises to practice.
