I didn't get overly annoyed by the FMC and the MMC was not a super dick and his character development was sweet.

This is unlike any book I’ve read- post apocalyptic isn’t really my vibe but this was really interesting. Astor is kind of hilarious and definitely grew on me as the book went on. I’m a fan!

Love the story but did feel there were many unanswered questions. Felt at times it was more focused on spice then closing certain questions that was brought up throughout. Was very good tho still and would recommend

This book has been on my TRL list for a while and it did not disappoint. I really enjoyed the world building and the character development. I also liked how it explored different elements of human behavior and concepts.
The spice was hot! The narration was very good, both narrators did an amazing job. I definitely will be continuing with this series.

A great dystopian romance!

Interesting and unique dystopian premise that is just a backdrop for the main romance story. As long as you are aware of that and are not expecting crazy, detailed world building, then this is an enjoyable story. Sean Masters was perfect as Rome with his deep, velvety voice. CJ Bloom read this a little too child-like and naive so I ended up reading her chapters, instead of listening on audiobook. This book was done in dual narration, not duet, in case others were curious.
Rome is an OTT, alpha MMC that is possessive while also being a sweet cinnamon roll to Aster.

I was mad at myself for putting this one off for so long. This dystopian world took me on such a wild adventure. Im so looking forward to the rest of the series. If you can do the audio for this one, i highly recommend it!

From the world building to the character development, everything about this story was pure poetry and perfection and I cannot wait for what’s coming next! The emotions rollercoasting through me as I read were insane and I really didn’t want to get to the end of it. IS THAT GOOD!!! And having CJ and Sean as the voices of Rome and Aster?! Pure magic! I couldn’t cast it better if I tried!

If you’re into dystopian worlds, forbidden romances and a possessiveness that knows no bounds and will do anything for their love, I highly…HIGHLY…suggest you pick this up ASAP!!!

Can’t wait for book 2!

It’s giving Matched meets Handmaid’s Tale, and honestly, I was hooked. The story was interesting and entertaining, but the main characters came off a little… simple-minded. Which, okay, makes sense considering they were literally bred and conditioned to serve one “meaningful purpose.”

BUT if you’re expecting a full-on Hunger Games-style rebellion against the system — this ain’t that. The rebellion here is softer, quieter, more personal than revolutionary. I’m hoping we get some stronger-willed, strategic thinkers in the next book because there’s definitely potential brewing.

You’re left with quite a few questions about the world building by the end, but it feels intentional — like book two is where the deeper layers will come in. It wasn’t as richly developed as I expected, but it was still super easy to follow and enjoy. And yes, they do get their HEA (thankfully), but I’m definitely curious to see how those “big changes” actually shake out in the next one.

This is a mixed dystopian fantasy with romance, featuring intriguing characters and a compelling plot. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this and plan to get book two as soon as book three is released at the end of the month. Although I typically don't like listening to unfinished series, this one was a lot of fun. It includes substantial world-building, a unique storyline reminiscent of "The Handmaid's Tale," and, in my opinion, an excellent level of romance with really good spice.

Didn't expect this one.
