Has potential

It reads like a junior high school level of writing. It’s like the Goosebumps version of zombie apocalypse. At least 1/3rd of the descriptions and narratives could be cut out. There is a lot of empty passages here. That being said, I think it has potential for something really exciting if they can cut out the excess fat and make it more action packed. The narrator also sounds like he’s bored and falling asleep.

There is a lot of mediocre stuff here.

I could debate the details but that would require too much energy.

The narration is literally just a guy reading the book and doesn’t merit a “performed by” byline. His voice isn’t unpleasant so it’s tolerable, but definitely not a performance.

Pointless

Maybe I’m spoiled by better Dead stories but there doesn’t seem to be any point to any of the scenarios here. And the narrator, the long “a” pronunciation, Yeesh…. Had enough after a couple hours.

Not bad

Three different set of characters in three different locales. Good mix of action and emotional quandaries, all while evading typical zombies. Although these zombies can be killed center mass shots too. Overall very entertaining. Will purchase the next in the series.

good listen, The narrator was good. If you like zombie apocalypse books, this book will satisfy you.

Loved it

I was so disappointed when this book ended. RS Merritt is a master of this craft, and I'm stoked to have found this series!

Okay……….

Truthfully the premise of this story was decent. It just kinda of goes on and on, not as descriptive about the characters or their environments. But all in all I would buy the next book in the series. The narrator did all of the characters in the same voice and that was my biggest dislike.

Awesome story, but audible issues mar it

This was my first experience with this author's work but definitely not my first zombie story so I can be kind of picky. I like that the author isn't just going with ahhh, people are turning into zombies because of some sort of vaccine/flu shot & now they are shambling corpses in search of human flesh to eat. This author has crafted his story in such a way that he takes his zombies & makes them different in several ways instead of just falling into the usual zombie outbreak, get supplies, fighting zombies, & usually fights against other groups of survivors for supplies or women. Nothing is more frustrating than seeing what could be a good idea but then the characters are too unbelievable, stupid situations, or just poor planning. I definitely didn't find those issues in this book. Characters are relatable and the author doesn't play 'favorites' where one person has an annoying habit of surviving every situation while experienced people die around them. I never got bored with the progression of the story & as I listen while doing my chores, I found that sometimes I did a bit more of a thorough job just so I could listen a bit longer because it was just hard to stop at certain points.
The narrator is kind of bare bones & flat. The only other complaint that I have is with it stopping all of a sudden & then in other places it skips forward so that I had to drop what I was doing to restart the story or to rewind it back to where I was before it skipped. If audible could fix those issues, it would be an awesome listen for anyone who enjoys a good zombie story.

A Small World is the first book in the Zombies! series. The book sets the stage for what could be a very exciting series. R. S. Merritt develops interesting and complex characters while building a new world of zombies and action. I look forward to the next books in the series.

I bought this book hoping that it was different from my usual books and it worked! the story grabbed you from the beginning to the end. I am now buying #2.
