Publisher's summary

The night before...and the nightmare after.

Rosie and Laura are as different as two sisters can be. One is stable and has the perfect family. The other struggles to break free from her troubled past. When Laura disappears after going on a blind date, Rosie takes matters into her own hands.

But as Rosie begins to search for her sister, her greatest fears come to the surface. Could Laura be more of a danger than the stranger she meets, or is the night before her last night alive?

Told in dual timelines - the night before and the day after - The Night Before is a riveting thriller about family loyalty, obsession, and what happens when the desire for love spins out of control.

Praise for The Night Before:

"Wendy Walker proves her ingenuity with her latest hair-raising chiller. Teeming with taut writing, an abundance of jaw-dropping revelations, and Walker's uncanny insight into the dark side of human nature, The Night Before is irresistible." (Mary Kubica, best-selling author of The Good Girl)

"Pulse-pounding action makes you race to the finish of this addictive thriller.... The writing sings, and the twists deliver." (Liv Constantine, best-selling author of The Last Mrs. Parrish)

"A dazzling hall-of-mirrors thriller: ferociously smart, furiously paced, and - best of all - honest-to-goodness surprising. All hail Wendy Walker." (AJ Finn, number one best-selling author of The Woman in the Window)

Fantastic Story

A great complex story with myriad twists and turns. Well written and well read.

Boring, Then Pretty Dumb

I feel like this could have been better. The twist was pretty good but it was boring until then. The dialogue was not good; it seemed like very amateurish writing. It was surprising because I liked all of her other books.

The narrators.

One of them was really good. The other was awful. She left the last word of each sentence with a higher pitch, the way an unsure preteen might do. It was so annoying that I had a hard time listening to her.

Great book

Gripped me from the start. There is a fair amount of character development. I liked the occasional dry/sarcastic humor from Laura's character. I think there are some who have commented that the book was slow. I think it's just that the character development and getting into the heads of characters (i.e. psychology) isn't as interesting to some as others. And yes there will have to be some suspension of disbelief to really get into the book. These types of books are somewhat fantastical in the things that occur but there is a lot of psychology here that is believable. Just look around and you'll find plenty of actual human behavior that is more outrageous than what goes on in this book.
The narration was a pleasure to listen to. Both narrators never put the emphasis where to me, it didn't seem to belong. That is a big issue with some narrators. Of the two I liked Laura's narration best, it was really good. Another annoying thing that wasn't present here was random pauses between words and sentences. That can be so annoying. The words just flowed at a good pace. I'll be listening to more from Wendy Walker.

My favorite book in a long while

Loved everything about this book, and highly recommend it! Also read The Silent Patient, and liked this one better.

Average. I’d give it a C-

I found this boring. It does have a surprising twist at the end but other than the last hour I had no interest in this book. I thought the topic was terrible. Not only not practical (usually that doesn’t bother me) but just a snore. If it was free, I’d listen, but I wouldn’t spend a credit on it.

Pretty good read!

I hadn't read any of the books by this author and I really enjoyed it. I'll be looking into her other books. I wouldn't compare it to a big hit like some of the other psychological thrillers, but it was still pretty good. I'd recommend it. It wasn't the best and the plot wasn't very deep or complex, but I still thought it was pretty good and well told. It did have me guessing and wondering who and what happened throughout quite a bit of the story. Worth the credit in my opinion
