Publisher's summary

From the best-selling author of All Is Not Forgotten and Don’t Look for Me comes a sharp, compulsive thriller about a young woman who narrowly escapes a violent crime and the psychiatrist helping to recover her memory of the suspect.

Gabby Ashford has just survived an attempt on her life. Detectives have connected her story to two other cases in the area: Professional women drugged at a bar, brought to their homes, and drowned in their bathtubs. Gabby, who miraculously woke up in her own bathtub unharmed, could be the key to finding a serial killer on the loose - but she has no memory of the attack.

Gabby admits herself to a high-end rehabilitation center to recover and to seek the help of a psychiatrist renowned for his work with memory recovery. As Dr. Forrester works with Gabby - interviewing not only her but her overbearing fiancée, her emotionally fragile brother, and the local detective working the case - questions about Gabby’s story, her past, and the ethics of memory recovery emerge.

Dr. Forrester, the central voice of Walker’s breakout debut All Is Not Forgotten, is a fascinating and deeply complicated character, barreling toward the truth of the case at hand while wrestling with the demons of his own past. Shocking and succinct, Hold Your Breath will have you on the edge of your seat from the first minute to the last.

well done!

A great little story. well written, flowed nicely with an interesting ending. Dylan Baker is a great narrator. I'm pretty fussy about the readers of any audible book. I like that he read it like a story with very minimal "acting out" of any of the characters. (I hate that!) would like to hear more from them both again.

Sooooo good!

Initially I was annoyed at the narrators voice but it is an excellent fit once you learn the characters.
Such an interesting story!
I thought I had it figured out multiple times & was always wrong.
Definitely worth listening to!!

Excellent

Excellent story and well performed. A must listen for students of psychology. You'll recognize the medical doctor and understand his disdain for pop psychology methods.

Great! Suspenseful!

I loved this book although it is very short. I wish there was more because it’s that good. Took me a few chapters to get warmed up to the narrator, nothing bad I’m just more used to female narrators I guess.

Needs a different narrator.

The story all in all was very good and interesting.
But the narrator was too punctuative with his words and when he tried to do a female’s voice, it was so cringey!
His voice, in my opinion, was too monotone for this story. He seems like he’s narrating a science book for middle schoolers.
If a different narrator was used, this audio book would’ve been perfect!

Challenging

It is always a challenging quest to self criticize. This work gives more than a psychiatrist's investigative thrill but also the realistic chill of finding out how everyone is actually mentally challenged.

Didn't see it coming

There was a huge plot involved in such a short story. Wendy did an amazing job putting so much detail in it. Kept me guessing.

Interesting story

This wasn't the type of story I thought it would be based on the description. I had a hard time paying attention through much of it. Had a good twist ending, but not really the mystery I'd hoped for.

Well worth the listen!

I’m glad I took the advice of another listener and stayed on after not initially enjoying the narrator’s voice. While not my favorite narrator he had great inflection and his voice fit the characters well.
The story was quick, but through and the characters were all well developed. The dr is a bit arrogant but not unbearable. I’ll admit to being pleasantly surprised by the twist - I was certain I had discovered the answer much earlier but was incorrect, which made the story far more enjoyable.
