Publisher's summary

From the best-selling author of The Secrets of Us and The Best of Friends comes a novella of deceit, desperation, and how one little mistake can unravel a life.

When overwhelmed stay-at-home mom Alexis finds herself at odds with her husband after she’s charged with a DUI, she is given one chance to get her family back: complete AA and admit her faults. The problem is, she’s never had a drinking problem and has no idea what caused the blackout that led to her arrest. Still, she’s committed to working through the program, if that’s what it takes to be reunited with her two young children. But when she connects with a new friend, Farrah - a confident, successful powerhouse of a woman Alexis can’t help but idolize - she’s empowered to take a closer look at her husband’s role in her downfall. What she finds shocks her to her core, quickly spiraling into something more sinister than she ever imagined.

Annoying narration of an unsympathetic character

I understand this is fiction, but as I listened I kept wanting to call Alyssa, the main character, and tell her to stop acting like a hysterical and get a better lawyer. The whining, hysterical tone of the narrator made this book almost unbearable until the last 30 minutes or so when she began to settle down and get a grip. I only hung in there because I needed something to listen to on a long drive.

Didn't see that coming!

This book was performed well, and the story line kept me guessing , even after evidence was pointing to particular people. (no spoiler here!) I began to question the last person/piece of the puzzle, but did not see the finally results coming!

Meh

The ending left me disappointed, thought it would be more interesting. The story itself was good, and the narration is excellent, just a tad let down at the end.

Interesting plot, with an ending that felt incomplete

I was intrigued by the plot and the story flowed well until the end. The ending felt rushed, a bit confusing, and incomplete with a shift in focus to another character rather than wrapping things up for the central character.

Interesting Story but...

I enjoyed the story and the narrator. Here's the "but": why did Farrah choose to befriend her? Maybe I missed that explanation but the answer is not clear. I think it's an important question about the story plot that should be answered.

Left us hanging

My husband and I listened to this short story together and were intrigued, the story line was good, but it left us with so many questions that went unanswered. The end was a total Law and Order SVU ending. If you’re familiar, this story left us feeling “Dick Wolfed”. Our created term for being left hanging.

Short & sweet!

This audio book catch my attention from the beginning & held onto it until the end. I can honestly say, I could identify with certain parts. It's only a couple of hours. Take a chance -- what do you have to lose?

Great!

The narrator was wonderful! She does a great job at giving all the characters their own voice and keeps the listener in the story.
The story was very well written and kept me on the edge of me seat the whole time and the end had me reeling! Great overall!
