Publisher's summary

In the heart of Venice, a woman is sacrificed to a forgotten god, sparking a mystery lost for thousands of years.

Dr. Penelope Bryne is ridiculed by the academic community for her quest to find the remnants of Atlantis, but when an ancient and mysterious script is found at a murder site, she flies to Venice determined to help the police before the killer strikes again.

Penelope has spent her entire life trying to ignore the unexplainable and magical history of Atlantis, but when she meets the enigmatic Alexis Donato, everything she believes will be challenged. Little does she know, Alexis has spent the last three years doing his best to sabotage Penelope's career so she doesn't learn the truth - Atlantis had seven magicians who survived and whom he has a duty to protect.

As Alexis draws her into the darkly, seductive world of magic and history, Penelope will have to use her heart as well as her head if she is to find the answers she seeks.

With the new MOSE system due to come online and Carnivale exploding around them, Penelope and Alexis will have to work together to stop the killer and prevent dark magic from pulling Venice into the sea.

LOVED IT!

Its been a while since I was really drawn in by a story -- not so trite and predictable that I could skip chapters and not miss anything -- and not so depressing that I couldn't stand to listen!! It was fun, engaging and a good mystery. More Please!

So well narrated.

This book (this series) is amazing. I can’t get enough of it. Amelia does an amazing job of not just narrating multiple characters but SO MANY ACCENTS! I was so impressed. I truly feel like she makes this book come alive in an amazing way. I truly feel like being able to hear each characters accents really added to them as a whole. Definitely recommend this book on audible whether you’ve read it traditionally or not!

Great book and EXCELLENT narration

I really enjoyed this book! It is well written and the narrator makes each character come alive with accents and voices unique to every single one. I got lost listening to her bring the story to life. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

Fun story, awesome narrator

Real talk, the main character is not 18, thank god! She also isn’t your typical self destructive or completely bratty MC. Really refreshing to have a female lead that you don’t feel like punching in the face at some point. Penelope is smart, accomplished and uses common sense. The relationships are healthy and non-toxic and the magic and spice are just right! Also, the narrator does amazing here, nails all the accents perfectly.

Would have preferred it as a book

Story could be good, but I cannot get over the narrator. One female narrator and the main characters are Australian female and Turkish male and there are multiple other accented male/female characters. I think the premise is interesting, may pick it up as a book but couldn't finish it as audio book.
