Publisher's summary

I have to tell you something. I did something bad.

Fifteen years ago, Blair's best friend Molly was murdered.

Fifteen years ago, Adrian Jones went to prison for it.

Fifteen years ago, the real killer got away with it.

And now, Blair's terminally ill sister has made a devastating deathbed confession, which could prove that the wrong man has been imprisoned for years - and that Molly's killer is still out there. Blair's determined to find him, but the story behind Molly's death is more twisted than she could imagine. If she isn't careful enough, the killer will ensnare her and bury Blair with his secret.

Almost ruined by the narrator

I've Loved this author since I was a kid and was delighted to find her in audible. thoe narrator however pretty much destroyed the enjoyment for me personally. She was dry when speaking of the main character and her voices for the others (especially the children!)were amateurish at best. I will not be purchasing any other books narrated by her which is a shame and my loss

A very good read

If you like mysteries, this is a must read. It has so many unexpexted twists.

Excellently preformed

This book has it all. Characters that have a history, a few twists and turns and an excellent narration through Ms. Norris. I will look for more books by the author and narrator.

So the always incredible vocal artist ☆LYNN NORRIS☆ has attained a new level of *wow* on this one. Varied, bang-on pacing (and timing on specific dialog that'll stop your heart, it's so good), characters absolutely mind-blowing in their exquisite, layered, discrete detail (check out the pivotal Black prisoner, cameos such as the postman, and the *villain*, to name a tiny handful), a dazzling array of vocal effects and dialects, emotional authenticity — it's the work of a mature master who knows her business, and gives you the enormously pleasurable gift of relaxation (you know you're gonna have a luxury ride with a crystal-clear view of the scenery) punctuated by defibrillator shocks to the system that are the hallmark of first-rate suspense. Deeply, deeply satisfying.

Author MacDonald has written an evocative piece (and, as a denizen of the Poconos, where the story's set, I should know) — atmospheric, with natural dialog, dimensional characters, and a pretty tight story line that feels plausible and, while it delivers on the shock value front, never feels contrived for the purpose of gratuitous violence or formulaic, cartoonish "*thwack!* *kaBOOM!*-type effects. Rooted in reality and believability, 's what I'm trying to say here.

A truly enjoyable listen. Recommended highly.

Really, really good!!

Interesting story and plot line and fantastic narration bring this story to life. This is my first Patricia MacDonald book and I will definitely look for more. Lynn Norris was a perfect selection as the storyteller. She has a gift of bringing younger characters to life that many narrators do not have and she handles the other characters adeptly. Highly recommend!

Realistically she said he said Blair said Malcom

Interesting story, took a long winding route to start to get tolerable. Some people were hateful for no reason other than to be mean. Trigger warning to those who suffered sexual assualt or abuse. Lots of heartbreak early in the story. Racism and lies impacted the lives of too many people. I suppose that all the traumatic issues added flavor Story was irritating at intervals due to the number of times that the narrator said she said he said Blair said Malcom said they said.... Need a different term to progress a story. Simple dialogue wih a far fetched plot. Blessed reunion.Ridiculous that Blair took time, a lot of time to clean up another woman's kitchen of a mess not her own. Committed trespassing and excessive snooping in another person's property including the home bedrooms and a barn. She really spent too much time where she did not belong. Pitiful that she tried to justify it be crediting it to scientific curiosity. Also irritating is that not once was the city Philadephia referred to by its proper name. Always referred to as "Philly". Finally the kids' voices were nauseting, comical at times, and not cute at all. The ending is incredible.

Great Weekend Read

Wanted something to take along for a weekend away with my dog. This was perfect. A book to escape with and in.

Disappointed

The writing was poor. The story was drawn out, and read like a ridiculous who-done-it based on a disgusting crime, The poor writing made it all the worse, like the author decided to create a cozy mystery but with child enslavement and rape - the juxtaposition of disparate things that have no business being in the same book together. The narration was amature. I have come to expect higher quality from Audible originals. I cannot recommend this title to anyone. The high ratings are questionable in their validity.

Silly and Juvenile

Unfortunately, the story line is poorly conceived and the writing is juvenile. I do not recommend it.
