Publisher's summary

A New York Times Bestseller

“A smart, edge-of-your-seat story with plot twists you’ll never see coming. Stacy Willingham’s debut will keep you turning pages long past your bedtime.” —Karin Slaughter

When Chloe Davis was twelve, six teenage girls went missing in her small Louisiana town. By the end of the summer, her own father had confessed to the crimes and was put away for life, leaving Chloe and the rest of her family to grapple with the truth and try to move forward while dealing with the aftermath.

Now twenty years later, Chloe is a psychologist in Baton Rouge and getting ready for her wedding. While she finally has a fragile grasp on the happiness she’s worked so hard to achieve, she sometimes feels as out of control of her own life as the troubled teens who are her patients. So when a local teenage girl goes missing, and then another, that terrifying summer comes crashing back. Is she paranoid, seeing parallels from her past that aren't actually there, or for the second time in her life, is Chloe about to unmask a killer?

From debut author Stacy Willingham comes a masterfully done, lyrical thriller, certain to be the launch of an amazing career. A Flicker in the Dark is eerily compelling to the very last page.

Spine tingling

The chills come early and often in this well written, dark but not gory, twisty mystery/thriller. It kept me guessing and while I saw a few things coming, it made me feel clever more than made anything seem obvious. And the ending was still a surprise.

Narration was better for female voices than male.

Great story set in the south needs a southern voice

Really enjoyed this book! Great story. Looking forward to the next book by this author. I just wished the narrator had been southern. It would have made listening feel more authentic.

Predictable?

I hated the main character - she drove me nuts. And I could already guess the twist within the first 30 min of the book.

it was entertaining

I liked it. For some reason I feel like something keeps missing in the story. I can't put my finger on it. Overall it was entertaining and a good story. Still, a little bit predictable because I thought it could only be either or really. It was always between the two important (and free) guys in her life. I think it could be shortened a little. Few unneeded scenes.

Great listen

Although simi-predictable if you are a crime fanatic still a great listen. I adore this narrator, she could make any book a fun listen!

Twisty and dark

This was a good listen. The narrator was awesome. I kinda knew where things were going and had good idea of how it would play out. The protagonist is kind of irritating with her constant jumping to conclusions but it was completely in character so that was just me reacting to it. I’ll have to see if the author has any more books after this!
